Dan, I actually purchased the last remaining Slee bumper without the hoop prior to the increase in steel pricing. I think now they mostly sell with the hoop.

Actually he only makes them in very small runs now and I had to wait a bit to get mine 'cuz they needed enough pre-orders to justify the run. All the current ones are hoop equipped. I tried to get a "plain" one (no dice) but the hoop is kinda growing on me. It is only a cutoff wheel away from gone if I change my mind tho....... :D

I noticed you arent too satisfied with the interior tire mount, particular reason? Loss of cargo room? Also, what exactly did you do and do you have any more pictures of it? Very sweet rig!

Thanks. The low rating is due to the slight wobble that sometimes occurs, plus I would rather have it on the opposite side. It is somewhat intrusive in space in the cargo area but for now not to bad. I purchased it for about $40 at the MAF garage sale http://www.man-a-fre.com/garage_sale/garagesales.asp; it was defiantly worth my while for that price. It bolts in place of the third row seat, not a bad design but not perfect. I hope this picture helps.

I thought about getting the hoop and then possibly adding to it, would you considering going this route? I ended up opting for the clean pallet to start with; I’m most likely going to weld one on in the future.

Thanks for the iPod mini mount link :)

No problem, wait for the sale though. I don't think I paid that much, and I did get it a Best Buy.

A little touchy -B-??????? :D

Guess there's a reason she's called Pristine. ;)

I bought the same thing and found that the wobble bothered me quite a bit even though it was securely bolted down. I just have not had any time to try and fix it. Nice rig by the way!!!!

Thanks. What ideas have you came up with to resolve the issue? I can’t think of a good way to triangulate it to give it the proper support without completely revising the entire thing. I’m kind of leaning towards incorporating multiple lug holes in the wheel instead of the one little bolt in the center hub.

I dont Have any solid ideas but I was going to try and play around with it this upcoming weekend. I will let you know if I figure out anything that really works.

Great ride and write up!! I actually think with the slee bumper that the ARB upper would be perfect on the slee. That would be my perfect bumper, my wife loves the upper bars of the ARB and I love the lower slee bumper. As you can see the wife won out in my situation as is usual.

Thank you. You hit the nail on the head! I agree that would be the perfect match. I noticed in the past one or guys chopping off the top of their ARB, I wonder what they did with them.

Boarder line wanting to buy one, however haulted by the hoop. I know I could just cut the hoop off, but that's a good few $$$ worth of steel, fab time, and time having to touch up the area.

Why'd they add that hoop anyways? It doesn't provide anymore protection in my opinion.

It looks great w/o the hoop. First time I saw it like that, very cool!

I like the hoop and waited until they offered it before I bought one.

The hoop is very solid and will protect the radiator from a large animal hit. Think big deer, elk, cow, horse, or buffalo.

I wasn't concerned about a fender-bender or losing a headlight or even denting some sheet metal. But if I'm in the boonies and hit a large animal I don't want a damaged radiator to incapacitate the vehicle.

Scott,

Here's what I'd do for triangulating the spare tire holder. The interior wall that the spare tire is next to has a large cavity. There are already existing holes that's visibale once you remove the vinyl trim piece. You can drill a new hole in your interior wall of the cab and then run a long bolt through this hole straight into the vertical square tubing. You can either drill a hole completely through the square tubing or simply drill and tap for this long bolt. If you decide to simply drill all the way through the vertical square tubing, then you'll neeed three nuts: one to secure the long bolt to the interior wall, the other two on both sides of the tubing. You may want more nuts to double nut everything against vibrations. You can use a long bolt or even a turn buckle just to properly orient the spare tire rack. This should do a good job of stabilizing the rack laterally.

I hope all of this makes sense.

I was gonna ask you about your trick airbag suspension that allows you to lean the rig to the right or left

but then I realized you stuffed your right front tire

Sam, I’m sure that you could order it without the hoop you would just have to wait for the next production run. It should offer some protection to the area it covers. If I remember correctly, they were getting so many requests for adding a hoop they just started to offer it as an option.

Oh yea, it just has a cleaner look to it. But I wouldn’t mind adding a custom bull bar of my design.

Excellent point on protecting the radiator and you are spot on regarding incapacitating the vehicle.

Wow Ali, now that’s what I call thinking. That should work out great, thanks. I would most likely go with the turn buckle route for the ease of adjustability. Out of curiosity would you happen to know what these existing holes in the large cavity were used for?

Thanks. Now that would be a neat idea, isolated airbag suspension.

I have been having issues with storage of the rear tire in the rear too. I was looking into designing something similar, but using the third row seat hooks in the floor for attachment and the metal loop on the wheel well for lateral stability. I guess the reverse would work as well. I looked at the MAF site and couldn't find the one you have there. I guess it was a discontinued item or some sort of one of a kind. I do wish I could find something like that as I have the fab skills of a drunk monkey.
