Geez, yes even an upgraded cigarette plug and outlet suck. I'm about to order a set of BMW / Hella plug & outlet to fix this. If I could find another cheap 12v cord, hardwiring is a good idea. Edgestar sells just POS cord at the low price of $69.00.

Any idea where to get a replacement cord or at least the plug that fits the fridge?

I think I may have found a replacement cord that will work with the edgestar (that doesn't cost $70). I was digging around in my old computer crap and found a 2 pole cord that goes to a laptop charger. The one I have doesn't have a keyed end, and while I think it would work, I'm not going to chance plugging it in the wrong way.

I want to hardwire the cord for my LX and keep the original cigarette lighter cord for my other car. I think this cord from Amazon will work, just have to be sure to make it up to the vehicle side properly since the positive and negative cords aren't colored. For reference, I believe it is a C7 polarized plug end.

This graphic in this video has it backwards, but they explain it correctly I believe.

Thx for the link on that cord TXLX100, I think that may be my next upgrade.

In my 80, so far I upgraded to the much improved spring loaded metal handles recommended earlier in this thread, made a homemade blanket with the LCPhil suggested Home depot insulation and grey duct tape to protect it from sunlight, installed the Sears platinum 31 series marine battery, and ran a power outlet to the rear of the LC. I used a Toyota power port with heavy gauged and fused dedicated source from the battery. It is installed in the drivers side panel directly behind the second row seat.

The 31m fit with only a little trim of the fins on one side of the battery and a new length of aluminum cross bar for the hold down. Research showed that this particular battery is designed to use either post for full contact unlike the optima design - so using the threaded post was no problem for primary connection.

Next is to get the 40 ready for the new fridge: building a custom fridge mount/holder for mounting in place of my passenger seat (ala Stepmurr) when on trips and also running dedicated power. I am really happy with this fridge/freezer's performance and the incredible value for the price. No more soggy food or lukewarm drinks here in the desert.

That's some clean duck tape work.

I'd say, much better than Phil's job for sure! :P I bet you weren't drinking beer when you did yours either!

Back in stock. Just snagged a 43qt.

There was one 63 in stock, and two 43s when I looked. They go fast.

I check that site every other hour and even have my brother checking and I still missed it!

I check the 2 sites 15+ times each every day between 8am-5pm. I've never seen a 63qt. in stock.

Since it was posted at the expi portal and now here they go really quick when they are available, Phil did you buy a 43 too?

Fawk that's huge! I wanna see how it looks in an 80!
That's for some days out in the bush, or for a big family. I think soon I'll go with the 40 or 63

Hmmm not sure, I believe it was one of the original links way back in this thread. Takes me right to it, says there is 1 available right now. Call compact appliance and tell them the model number is FP860SD

Oh I don't want that monster!!! I was curious if I was going about finding one(43 or 63qt) all wrong. Guess I'll keep doin' what I'm doin' & hopefully get lucky before summer is over. Kinda hard to sell the idea to my wife in the winter!

My 43qt just arrived at the house. Can't wait to get home and test it out! Now I'm wondering about the scratches and dents I'll find when I open that box.
