I decided to test the voltage drop of my setup without driving. Started yesterday at 4pm and will record voltage/time until the truck no longer turns over. This is with and empty fridge using a Sears Platinum 31M battery.

Starting voltage 12.98 with fridge pre-cooled to 26 deg. and set for 34 deg.

24 Hours in - 12.58V engine starts

48 Hours in - 12.32V...

Next reading on Monday. Temps vary between 27 and 33 deg. Ambient temp high of 70 deg.

While I know your goal is to see if the truck starts, doesn't the act of starting the truck throw off your test results? For one, the starter used power to start the engine. Two, having the truck running started recharging the battery. How long did you let it run? You may have to recharge the battery and start the test over to be accurate.

LOL. No, starting the truck won't throw anything off. It is the whole point of my test. The truck is started and turned immediately off. It is literally for only one second.

I want to start it everyday until failure, and just thought I would share my results.

:)

I just mean that every time you try to start the truck you are using power that will cause your no start to come that much sooner. For example, if you tried to start the truck every 4 hours for 48 hours you may get a no start sooner than if you only tried to start the truck every 12 hrs. You would be starting the truck three times as often. I don't know how much starting the truck will reduce your available standby power but it is something. Could be seconds. Could be minutes. Could be hours.

there are some issues with that test but I don't think that is one of the big ones since it will give an answer that is on the safe side.

I think adding another 100W panel will be enough to run the fridge but 2 panels occupy 1/2 of my rack. I need rack space for future RTT. Returning the panel for a larger load one is not ideal as I hate having to run the wires again. In a meantime, the panel will keep my battery top out.

You didn't by chance ship to an address different than your bill to address did you? That happened to me and Phil got mine because his transaction cleared sooner, if the ship and bill are diff then it's held up for a follow up call from CS to prevent fraud.

In any case you can just wait it out like I did, took them a couple weeks but they came thru.

Phil do you know when your Renogy panel was made? Does it have a date? And did you try their controller or did you just get a panel and then the morning star?

I do not use a Renogy panel. Presently I using a super thin (.12") panel from grape solar we have been using there panels (mostly frame mounted) for a few years now with excellent results.

I have several controllers now Im on the Morningstar but I think Im going back to a Xantrex C12 due to the ability to adjust each of the 3 stages of charging. Most of the 100 watt system I have set up uses the Sunforce 60031 10 Amp Digital Charge Controller, inexpensive with a good track record.

Phil, Poly or Mono? do you use all 100w panels? Do you have a favorite source for them?
Thanks!

Warezdog, my shipping info is the same, I checked the "same as" box. They are probably just sick of me by now and don't want to sell me another one.

Phil, do you have a website or general build plans for your solar setup? I'm considering adding something to my camper for dry camping. Mainly, all I'll need is something for the fridge and some LEDs.

Mine shipped now. Fingers crossed it arrives alive since they shipped it FEDEX.

Mono crystalline only.
Mostly 100W
I like Grape Solar out of Oregon for me they have been great to work with.

32 or 36 cell in the 100w? Looking at GS now, since you have had good luck with them I wanted to replicate the "Phil" setup!
