Rolling the dice on this fridge 63QQT $270 shipped

Just got to a comp, the only thing I'm not sure of is the plate dims but they'll ship both for $5 so they're $10.80 shipped per pair.

Guess I'll pull the trigger and see and I can always use them elsewhere if they don't work. I love the handles from the expiportal post but crap that would be nearly 1/6th of what we paid for the fridge itself!

For sure have to get it tied down, like another member said if that thing came loose full with any kind of forward momentum it's going to kill or cripple someone, best case knock out a rear window.

Definitely needs to be secured in some fashion other than using the plastic handles. The handles don't even connect behind the mounting plate, the load spring sits there. It's kind of surprising to me that the manufacturer doesn't have a disclaimer regarding using the unit in vehicles and properly securing it. It says in the manual it is suitable for use in a vehicle but says nothing about securing it.

I suppose the absolute best you can do is to secure the unit base to its mounting position, from below, and have a secondary tie down in place (by the handles, etc.). But I guess a rollover or aggressive collision is a non-event for most people, so hopefully we don't see any real world reports of these fridges flying around in vehicles.

Just finished our first real 3 day test on the 63qt south of the border
Comparing Edgestar 63qt to our Waeco 50qt

Pros
Wife like the bigger size
Wife liked the way the lid closes better
I liked the full depth baskets for loading and unloading

Cons
No light but with mostly beer not a problem
Temperature seems to fluctuate more 31° - 37° fine for beer

Overall we both agreed its a great value. Throughout the day constantly switching from 12v to 110v with no glitches. Never a problem with the high 12volt amp draw but the vehicle has dual batteries from the factory and didnt run for more then a couple hours via 12volts.

Looking forward to many cold beers

Has anyone been able to purchase a warranty? I received an email from Living Direct letting me know what other products have been purchased with refrigerators. One item is a $59.99 3 year warranty from New Leaf Service Pro with covers parts and labor and in home service. It would be worth $60 considering these will be bouncing around in trucks and only have a 90 day parts and labor warranty. I'll give them a call later and find out if I'm eligible to purchase it.

$10 and change handles arrived today and I'm happy. Mounting holes on the bottom will be tight to get all three but doable.
Definitely a beefy handle, much better than stock for little money.

Hopefully I'll be able to drill them out and put a coat of blitz black on them this weekend and report back.

Could someone with a 43 qt. do me a huge favor and give me the real dimensions of the bottom of the large area without the basket in it? Or better yet, will two gallon size milk jugs fit in the bottom side by side or diagonally when they are full? My friend has a 63 qt. that I have used and like it, but I am looking to get the 43 qt. one. Thanks.

It will be close without a basket. The 2 standard gallon jugs fit snug in my 63 quart side by side, in 12.5". Maybe you could lay down 2L bottles if gallons don't fit.

Thanks, did you find out anything more on that warranty? I'm curious of who covers shipping etc. I usually NEVER buy extended warranties on stuff but I did notice on the way home the can likes to rattle a lot and I'm wondering if that would decrease the life span as well.

Nope, never looked into it. Like you I don't buy warranties.

I haven't called yet, I will try to on Monday. I usually buy warranties on items I can't work on (TV's, front loading washer, Chinese made fridges, laptops, etc). Mine is pretty quiet in the back of the LX. I only heard it one time when I drove over some elevated tracks too fast probably. It could be just the compressor motor banging the inside of the housing.

Changing the handles are a night and day difference. Nice job!

I have began to build and design my slide for the fridge. I am designing the slide to be as low profile as possible. With this set up I can open the lid all the way when it is in Home position, but not all way open when the slide is extended. The lid will hit the rear hatch seal.

I am using 24" slides from Home Depot. You could design the slide to clear the rear hatch seal, but it would have to extend farther than the slides I have.

I know 100s and 80s are different, but with 24" slides, the fridge door just barely clears the weatherstrip when opened. I had about another inch I could have moved the slide towards the back, if I had planned a little better and had some more room.
