I am ready to drop my Tax refund on a Metaltech cage

I am wondering if they can be tied into the frame with bolts and backing plates. instead of welding.

they are bolted where they attach through the floor.
If you are considering the cage is only as strong as its weakest
link. its already bolted in one place.

I guess what I am asking is , Welding to the frame to attach your cage seems commonand the norm.

But wouldnt some big grade 8 bolts plates/washers be more than strong enough?

I ask cause I am not keen on welding to my frame except where it is absolutely necessary.. like bracing for power steering..

i would imagine bolts would be fine, the plate is not very big that attaches to the frame, but again bolt will be fine.

i would put a plate oposite of the one that ties it to the frame. kinda pancake the frame.

I bouht the frame tie in along with my Metal tech cage. It is a pad that is bolted to the pad in the cab of the Fj. The lower portion is welded to the pad and frame. Very nice. I can take a pic if you like.

I did bolt my Metal Tech cage to the frame. I figured it would be as strong, and if there were some damage done, it would be easy to replace...
