Recently I got a bug to get my old mini in tip top wheeling shape again.
Today, I did two things:
1) swapped the old motor mounts for new factory mounts & brackets from 22re performance
2) swap the leaking original steering box for a used unit from a 1994 4runner.
Motor mounts was really straightforward, but I made a big mistake not buying new hardware. Mine was hashed and I was left scrounging through my bolt bin
Couple things I learned from the steering box swap. The box is bigger in all dimensions. It did not clear my core support requiring me to adjust it with a sledge hammer. The nose of the 89-95 box is about ~1.5” longer than the 86-88 box. Also, the new box turns farther lock to lock, and will turn past the steering stops. Not sure how to resolve the last one; other than not cranking on it really hard at lock.
Found a few other broken parts in the process, like dissolving bumpstops.
