Sweet setup, the only think I don't like is that the rack covers up the sunroof.

I'd be all over it if it came in black anodize. Not crazy about the clear, though. But it is a nice set-up. I think there is deffinitely a Foxwing in MY future. We need all the shade we can get in FL.

I like the non-finished aluminum racks. No touch up paint needed.

FWIW, Rhino Rack is one of the OEM manufacturers for Toyota.

I was against this when designing a rack, but it could an option v/s powder.

Why anodizing or powder coat?

Yeah, I'd skip anodizing in favor of powder coating. All the anodized crap I've had has faded in the sun.

Any pics of how the rack is constructed? Is it bolted together or welded?

My buddy does hard anodizing all the time, but these are internal shock components and not a rack that would take abuse.

Any wind noise problems with that rack?

Oh, I'm not dissin' on it... Now that you mentioned no shipping costs, it makes sense. I gave the Rhino a good long look and (like you) the only thing that held me back was the color. I am OCD when it comes to the "artistic" side of my build and I could not convince myself to outfit my rig with a very large item that was not either gray or black.

I'll be the first to admit that (especially from a distance) the FR looks incredible. My truck is going to be so murdered out by the time it's done (5% is going on the windows today, and wheels are getting sprayed with dupli-color semi-gloss black shortly) that I figured a bit splash of silver would do it good. It can always be PCd too in the future.

Agree, I take a lot of pics through my sunroof and will miss it. There are racks available with a sunroof hole and others could certainly be modified to have a removable panel.
I have not measured but I think model 42101 could fit without covering the sunroof and using 2 load bars, though I'm not sure if the mounting would work. It measures 60" long by 54" wide. If you could mount it to the middle and rear rack attachment points it would clear the sunroof.

i had my windsheild tinted along with the fronts in a very light shade mostly to cut down on heat transfer and it works great. coming home from vegas in the am with the rising sun in my face is so much more tolerable now. they have tint now that has no shade but can cut down on heat transfer over 50%. it helps protect the interior also.

Do you drive around with just the Foxwing attached? Curious about any noise that makes and if you have any feedback regarding the Foxwing in high winds.

I dont notice any wind noise from the foxwing when driving...I normally remove it for daily driving more for security than anything else...I wouldnt think you would want to use any awning in high winds but as long as you stake it out its not a problem...it is helpful to have to have a friend help you deploy it in high wind.

Ckkone,

How secure are you finding the foxwing with the two mounts to be?

I'm starting to piece my setup together but with the overall length Im wondering if a third bracket in the middle would be a little more secure.. How exactly do those brackets mount? Would it be possible to add a third? Any thoughts?

Thanks

It’s very sturdy, doesn't shake or rattle around off road at all. They come two brackets per package so you would have four if you bought two kits. You could certainly use three or even four to mount your awning. It mounts like all the other accessories, at the front of the rack there is a larger opening, in the large opening you insert the plate nut and slide it down where you want to mount the bracket, when you tighten the security screws it sandwiches the plate nut, platform and mount together.

The awning has channels on the back and mounts to the bracket with a threaded t-bolt.

To remove the awning I just loosen the screws enough so I can slide everything forward and lift up when the plate nuts have reached the large opening.

Here are some pics of the rack unmounted. Fit and finish are very good and the thing is stout. One thing that drew me to this rack was the riveted design. If I do lay it over on a tree or a rock it will be much easier to repair than a welded design. Also I like that the rails run lengthwise instead of crosswise. Just make sense to me for some reason. I can see advantages to both but for what I will use the rack for I think this will work well. The only thing I really still don't like are the plastic corners.

jon, turn it over so we can get a good look at the slotted rails.

The dark spot is an imperfection in the finish, I'm a little upset that something like that would leave the factory at this price point.

The wide part of he slot is a little rough around the edges and could use some refinement, the narrow channel is very smooth.

The rear of the rack does not have the wide slots. All attachments must go through the front.

I have a friend with a pneumatic riveter so it will be butter.

This is a cross-post from the other thread but thought it had value here.

The Rhino's cross bars are oriented opposite of the frontrunner. They run lengthwise along the truck, I cant speak for all models but part#42104 (84"Lx56"W) is as follows:

Bottom of Rack:
The 1st, 3rd and 5th rails are adjustable by 1/2" from center. The 2nd an 4th are riveted. Once you get the measurements from your truck dialed in you rivet the 1st, 3rd and 5th into place.

All inside measurements were checked and are the same.

I really like how there are channels on each rail that you can mount lights on. I went through 4 revisions on my Front Runner in order to get my 50" light bar mounted without any vibration and now that I figured it out, I am going to take what I learned and do a version 5 that will be much more streamlined. The part that sucks is that I will now have two drilled holes on the front of my rack that will need plugs.
