My '82 FJ40 has a bad front Old Man EMU spring (2.5" lift) and instead of replacing it I am thinking about returning my 40 back to the stock height.

What are my options for doing this?

1. Can I keep the OME springs (after replacing the bad one) and just change the shackles to bring the ride height down?

2. Assuming the answer to #1 is "no," can you still get new stock springs? Or, who sells good quality replacements that will yield the stock height? Is it easy to find good quality used stock springs?

Yes, many questions. Sorry. Thanks in advance for your help.

Shackle question. In order to lower your cruiser 2.5" you would need to get 5" shorter shackles. Assuming you are running stock shackels the entire shackle is only about 5" so sorry that method wont bring you down. Are you positive you have stock shackles? The reason I asked is if you did you probably wouldnt have considered shorter ones because they are so short now.... Maybe you have longer shackles also?? Plus your springs.

The shackles on the 40 are not stock. They came with the OME lift. I apologize for the confusion.

Can shorter shackles be used with the OME springs?

Here's a couple pics...

The right front spring has two 1/4" shims and the right side still droops slightly. When it's up on the rack the right front spring "fans out" more than the left. This leads me to believe the right front springs have softened up, thus causing the droop and need for shims.

Stock Springs

I bought some from CCOT years ago for my stock resto. Now I wish I had the OME. Too bad you are far away or we could trade. My springs are still like new a garage queen.

Stock Springs from a 71?

Hey Torque, I just took the stock springs off my 71 to put in 2.5 lift and shackles down in San Diego.

Not sure if they work for your year (someone chime in) but if they do I'd love to get em out my garage:)

:bang:71 springs won't work on an 81, different diameter spring eye's

Too bad-

Too bad they won't work:whoops:

Not looking to sell them but if someone local can use them I'm always into a little cruiser karma so shoot me a PM:)
