Just make sure you ask about the rivets. Previous owner/installer didn't use them and when I asked one installer he didn't know they were needed. Ended up calling the dealer and asked who they use and went there.

I'm going to need to replace mine soon as a I've gotten a few more rock chip and one more crack lately. Is there a company to avoid, or is it just luck of the draw?

I need to have mine done as well. My All-state agent directed me to any Elite Autoglass location in the Denver metro area. I think I used them to do my 62 years ago, but that windshield was stupid simple to replace (and cheap).

This thread is making me nervous, sounds like there are quite a few gotchyas with the LC windshield replacement. Guess I'll check with Slee and see if they have a "preferred" glass vendor.

Mine is flush on my 2000. I also had a lot of wind noise and was fixed by replacing the windshield molding. My insurance covered it all.
How about where the side moulding on the A pillars meets the cover for the windshield wipers. Is the moulding just on top of the wiper compartment cover, or does it interlock with it somehow?

My windshield just got hit by a large rock on I-25 north of Santa Fe...3rd windshield in 3 yrs, and all three broke in October! This time, instead of a long crack from small rock impacts near the edge, the big rock hit smack in the center of the driver's view area. This year, the price for a new OEM windshield at the dealer will run $1537. Last year, it was around $1300 and change, previous year was $1K. My insurance company recommended it be replaced, will cover it (again) 100%. Adjuster said $1500 and change was no big deal, in their ballpark figures for the LX. Looks like the 100% glass coverage I bought for extra has paid off, saved me $3.8K in 3 yrs! Windshields are the only real complaint I have of this vehicle. I guess it's just the shear size of the glass. My old 4runner w/ 2" lift sits at the same overall height as the LX, but the front windshield is like 4" shorter in height, meaning a lot less glass surface exposed (plus the windshield is 1 ft narrower in width).

Good luck with that. The rivets have nothing to do with the windshield. Although they can conceal some crappy workmanship at the edges, like scratches in the paint where water can get trapped and start rust...

Isn't the rivet strip there to hold the a-pillar trim? I had my WS replaced a few months back and they didn't even touch the rivet strip.

Need to replace mine. in 5 oclock traffic when the sun hits it directly it turns into a sheet of pockets and little marks from road rash. Going on 105K with mainly highway miles, and its in atlanta. King of traffic and little rocks everywhere.

Just dont know if insurance will cover it.

FYI: I had mine replaced a year ago last summer with a good quality glass. I didn't want to submit it to insurance...told the glass company that and I think it was $235 complete...which is less than my deductible anyway. But they seem to lower the price when they find out its a cash deal...FWIW.

I just had mine done by Elite / Safelite Autoglass... it was $200 and change... less than my $250 deductible. Whoever replaced the last one did a full glue job in addition to replacing the rivets with screws. Apparently the glue made it really hard to remove. Fortunately the tech who did this one seemed to know what he was doing... so no leaks or wind noise so far, while sparing the glue bath.

Great. I need to do the same soon. I've put it off long enough!

Rain-X does a nice job making the sand scratches less noticeable. I wonder if there is a product designed to fill these minor pits and make them less of a problem. Clay bar on the windshield also works very nicely to remove embedded grime that refuses to clean off.

Any photos of windshield replacement?

Please post or PM me some photos of the LC 100 windshield replacement process, if you have any.

Getting ready to have it done, the glass is etched by the dust and sand, and there are pits and small cracks.

The etching is in the pattern of the windshield wipers, so there is a heck of a glare at night.

Want to know the process inside out, so I can be on top of the local mechanics.

Thanks!

I had my windshield replaced here in Tucson a few months ago. Go to Mygrant Glass. They are located on Miracle Mile/Flowing Wells, next door to the new police station. They normally only sell to dealers. The guy I talked to sold me a windshield for my 99 LC for $60.00. Not a typo. 60 bucks! I called around before going to Mygrant Glass and most places wanted $600-800 bucks for a new windshield. I bought the moldings at Precision Toyota and paid $70.00 to have it installed. No windnoise, no issues to reports so far. Wanted to share this with you folks who live in the Tucson area.

New guy here.

We live in Acworth. Last month I had the windshield on our 2000 model replaced by a mobile guy that many of the car lots around me use. I own/operate an emissions inspection station on Hwy 92 at Bells Ferry.

Good job done with adhesive. Quiet and flush. $185.00 cash.

I can find his contact information if you are interested. He works all over the Atlanta area.

Good luck. We held off on replacing the windshield as long as we could. Seems like every long trip we take scores at least one good chip.

Ill probably get a new windshield in the spring. im possibly going on some cross country trips. I think ill polish off the windsheid on that trip. You say you have used him before, how is his post job follow up? Does he call and ask how his work was completed and quality? and will he stand behind his work? Say if I have a leak or a lot of wind niose, will he take it into his own matters and fix it untill its perfect or close to perfect?
