Hi, I've done the research needed for which bulbs to replace for my 80 series but im just hesitating to order because I will only be replacing bulbs and not the housing. Therefore my tail lights will not be the clear type yet and so on. When i tried out some taiwan LEDs on my reverse and brake lights, the incandescent bulbs turned out to be brighter and the technician explained that it was because my housing is not clear and I will benefit more from just investing in a new assembly rather than just replacing bulbs. However, those are some cheaper taiwan LEDs as there are no major suppliers of bright LEDs (SMTs) here in the philippines.

Has anyone ever tried replacing these LEDs with their stock housings? How were your results?

Here is my shopping list::cheers:

first you don't need can bus compliant bulbs .. and in the 80 section and 60 section there are few threads about this .. ( since both use same bulbs for tail lights .. )

Hi, I just chose the CAN Bulbs because in the specs, they have a higher relative brightness and more Lumens per LED because of the size of their LEDs. AND, theyre cheaper. I feel that the units with larger LEDs can outperform those with smaller ones when places in non-clear stock housings.

I've read all 14 pages of the LED thread but its mostly about Dashboard pics and nobody seems to be posting pics of LEDs being placed inside stock housings or for comparison so im really unsure of pushing the button on this purchase :(

Hope to get more info and reviews on these LEDs! :)

I would stay away from LED bulbs in a halogen housing. The color temp is going to be too high, lumen count is going to be low, and the beam pattern is going to suffer. They are also going to run VERY hot and cause the LED to color shift and become bluer. You are also going to need resistors to eliminate hyper flash, the shifter locking, etc.

Look into HIR or HID retrofit.

I just got done doing the whole car with HIR's and other replacements for stock bulbs from Candlepower and everything is considerably brighter. Every single socket on the LC.

I have yet to hear of an LED "bulb" that's brighter than incandescents. LED fixtures are sometimes as bright or brighter, but not bulbs.
I've seen people take apart a tail light and build in a mega LED board that's bright, but that's a LOT of work.
