I am running a ProCar Elite Lumbar.

I went the cloth rather than vinyl. I like the vinyl better except for when it is hot. Plan to take my truck to Central America so went cloth. Very comfy seat. I am 5ft 11" and 175lbs. Only running drivers right now as these are near $500 a pop. Done one long trip with it so far. It is great, no complaints. I used the Procar universal base. I had a spare set of stock seats so cut the feet off of them. Bolted feet in the truck, set universal base on it, got it how I wanted and welded the feet from the stock seats to the base. Fit's like a glove. Gives more leg room than stock seat. Universal base has height adjustment built into it. I set it all the way to highest, I like that sitting position best. Gives great field of vision and is most comfortable to me, have not hit my head on roof yet but it is only 2-3" from the roof at highest setting.

Only things I might want to do now is a very good seat cover, Procar doesn't make any, and a very low profile suspension base.

Cheers
I've been in touch with these guys. Care to comment on the quality/comfort?

Here is another option -- a bit pricy, but fits me really well. Had rear done to match.
That's nice. What model are those and did you buy them new or used?

Those Recaros are really nice! I had an 85 Supra too, that lumbar thing was cool.

I'm guessing it goes like, "If you have to ask, then....."
Two thumbs up for a smart a$$ answer to a simple question. Though I've heard of them, I know little about Recaro seats. A quick search showed Andy's Auto has them (supposedly for the 80) listing around $300-420/pair. They're called leather, but the material listed in the description is vinyl.

Brackets for the Recaros are from Wedge Brackets. http://wedgebrackets.com/toyota-landcruiser-fj80-90-97-seat-brackets.html.

Yes the bulbs are for inflating lumber support. Great seats - drove 500 miles on Sunday in comfort.
These are made for the 80 and bolt pattern on these are 11.5" front to back and 13" side to side. It is 4" tall and obviously replaces the factory bracket of your new seat. That seems like a common bolt pattern but they will also customize up to 3" larger. The price is $90/each and if you want the manual slider, it goes up to $160/ea. I have no idea how much customizing will add. Now add your seats and we're getting into big bucks. Expensive, but I like it.

I remember some discussion on using Sequoia seats, did anyone ever try it?

For me, quality is great and comfort is excellent. The coverings on the cloth seats probably not last as long as the vinyl. A buddy has Procar in vinyl and his seats look like new, probably near 5yrs old. Mine has only been in about 6 months but no issues at all.

Cheers

The model is Style Topline -- means has some electrical adjustment and built in heaters. Bought them new -- if you can find them used, that is a much better deal.

I'm afraid to ask .. how much are those Recaro's ...?

Expensive. The range for the seats is anywhere from 500 ish to several thousand depending upon model and features. I sold a FJ Cruiser and used all of the proceeds to buy the truck and do the interior, audio, bumper, and the like.

If you get OEM Recaro electric seats from a VW they have a universal Recaro base. Manual seats have VW-specific mounting.

I pulled off my passenger seat and took some measurements. The seats are pretty simple, and I think adapting the stock base to another seat should be simple (this all asumes you have a manual slide). The whichever seat is used, basically just needs to match up with the ~13" square bolt pattern of the stock base.

There is some HVAC equipment under the pass seat, so there would be little room for seat motors.

Most seats we are looking to replace with will have power recline and maybe lumbar. Those motors are typically in the seat where the backrest and bottom meet, so would not interfere with the base slide. If I

(Continued) IF I were to have my choice, I would like to find a way to keep manual recline. Just less to deal with and parts to break. It might be possible to reuse the cruiser seat lever for this, but I am not certain yet.

Something to keep in mind is where your lower seat belt is. FJ80's have seatbelts mounted to the floor, whereas later FZJ's have seatbelts integrated into the seats.

I'm not sure when the transition happened... anyone with a 93 or 94 care to confirm where their lower seat belts are? I think they're also integrated into the seat.

This is something I'm dealing with as I look at different seat options for my LX.

Interesting. What year FJ80? I just bought a set of front seats from a 91 and this was not the case.
