Don't know why the other thread is closed (unless maybe DB Electric is a forum sponsor or advertiser?), but I already gave my 2 centavos in that thread. Save yourself some grief and just get a 6hp Warn or Bosch motor in the first place.

Any more feedback on ~$100 4.5 or 6 HP chinese motors? Thanks

Not interested in any double motor setup.

Just looking for first-hand experienced feedback on the cheap ~$100 chinese 4.5 or 6 HP motors. Thanks

Has DB Electrical quality improved? Others?

The ebay link is for a single motor. Clickity clickity!

Ah, yes it is. How much is the 12v 6hp shipped to the US? I left a message for the seller on eBay.

Cody C, Do you have first hand experience with this motor?

Thanks

Well I finally pulled the trigger on a 4.8 HP motor from Discount Starter and Alternator (cgatesdsa) on eBay. I got the 20 spline version and a new spur gear for my 8274 since it is currently the keyed shaft version. My original spur gear has a few teeth missing and needed to go anyway. I was considering a 6 HP motor but got worried my single battery may not be able to keep up with the draw. The 4.8 is almost double the original HP anyway. Hope to install in the next couple of weeks. Headed to the Southern Cruiser Crawl in Hot Springs the second weekend in Oct for the first few pulls.

I'll try to report back on install and initial use.

Still hoping for other feedback on similar motors (4.8 HP & $100).

Shipping was free and fast! Unfortunately the packaging was crap so one of the posts for connecting the 3 wires to the solenoids is banged up and the nut won't come off. I'm sure I could deal with it with a file, but I don't consider it a new motor anymore. We'll see what their customer service is like...

Well they are shipping out a replacement immediately.

Install scheduled for Saturday...

The replacement motor showed up quickly and in perfect shape.

The install took a little trial and error on my part. The motor is shipped with a housing bearing and a spacer behind it. I eventually realized that I needed to removed both and utilized the Warn bearing already in the upper housing.

At the Southern Cruiser Crawl a couple of weeks ago I got to break it in. There was a long steep wet climb that my open front diff and stock transfer case were not up to. We spooled out the cable and attached it to a tree saver. The winch pulled strong in this single line setup and had no problem pulling my heavy 40 up the steep trail. I kept the tires slowly turning on the slick wet rocks and up we went. The pull took about four minutes. After getting to the top, spooling in the rest of the cable and moving my 40 down the trail to make room for the next truck, I touched the motor and it was barely warm.

So far I'm pleased with the purchase. We have yet to see how the motor holds up over time and to longer pulls.
