Helping out a friend by removing the troublesome "stock" TVSS security system from his 80 series... lots of searching Mud yielded some info on it but no pictures, so I tried to capture some here.

had to remove the driver side kick panel and lower dash to reveal the mess (first pic)

good news is that when done it looks lots better (second pic) AND we don't have to screw with the darn security system going off and disabling the truck.

basically there are four places where the TVSS system harness is inserted between two existing plugs in the "normal" harness, three behind the driver kick panel and one just to the right of the steering column up under the dash. In addition, there are two wires spliced in right under the steering column (here they used the crimp on splice things)

I'll try to add circles to the pics to distinguish what is what, but the TVSS connectors are the bright white ones... I have more pics later that show that harness all by itself

first pic is the kick panel, others are under the dash

edit: this truck had a turbo timer installed on it which was tapped into the TVSS harness that plugged in under the column (second pic)... you can see these as numerous electrical tape splices in the second pic - other trucks won't have this.

here's what the whole thing looks like out of the truck

second pic is a close up of the TVSS control unit itself and where the remote control antennae attaches to it with an RCA plug. This antennae is not pictured elsewhere had a cable about 6 ft long and the antenna end was shoved up from the kick panel toward/into the driver side A pillar

misc close ups of the TVSS harness parts

first the connectors from the kick panel

second the connector by the column... note the individual red and green wires were spliced in directly inder the column

third shows the TVSS dash switch and the ignition interrupt solenoid

steering column splices... had this closeup so thought I'd throw it in to show the wire colors that were spliced into

glad it helped... I was surprised not to have found a thread on it when I needed to dive in, so figured it would help someone sometime.

93 Alarm removal (step by step w/pics)

Also Note:
Contrary to some info floating around here, all 80's in the US equipped with the optional factory alarm system used the TVSS not the TDSE system.

Does anyone know if there is anything different about doing this to an LX? I would like to ditch the system if is that easy?

Just tried it. Pulled everything off like in pics and car wont start. I had a Blue and Red wires splice to the harness rather than Red and Green. Hopefully thats wasn't the issue. Anyhow, I just put everything back the way it was and car fire back up. Thanks for the info tho ;)

so anyone done this recently or know of any more threads on it in case i wanted to read up on it? and no issues on removal on the LX 450 i guess?

i am assuming i want to end up with this pic and just START at the module and follow it all around i guess? and i should remove or simply cut and wrap the two wires that crimp into the two red connectors?

ALSO, i "just" want to remove the alarm switch to put in the CDL switch but i suppose i should remove this sub-harness while i am in there...

looks like he says pretty much all you need to know here?:

THANKS

I have an LX450 and want to remove as well....Im not sure about that red and green wire in red connectors? do you just cut em and tape ends? 🤔 sup?

where is the silver box that is shown in the sub-harness pic? i’ve pulled the BLACK box that is the comm with the remote but where is this black box?

anyone know what to do with the BUNDLE that runs to the back of the vehicle at the floor?

or does anyone know how the two 2 wire connectors at the secureiy switch come off? i’ve been messing with these for fifteen minutes and at this point i ees to get some goo gone to get the foam tape off them and then get out a magnifying glass or something. would prefer not to cut them.

THANKS

two more.
do you just leave the connectors on the main harness unplugged after you pull the sun-harness or do you somehow need to reconnect two connectors from the main harness?
and does anyone know where i can find the CDL switch?
thanks
