Removal of hood insulation?

Mine didn’t come with one from the factory. I have had several 80s now, the poverty equipped ones didn’t have them from the factory, the telling thing is the vehicle information sticker is placed in a place that would be blocked by the insulation pad. I assume this is done to communicate down the assembly line not to install the pad.

Isn’t your truck white?

White = no clear coat

First of all, quit stalking me.

Second, paint is not the same as clear coat and it still doesn’t make a difference. We have several 80s down here with the hood insulation and screwed up clear coat. We’ve also taken the insulation off of trucks in other colors and never had an issue.

LET ME BLAME MYSELF FOR RUINING MY CLEARCOAT DAMNIT!!!

Interested to find a aftermarket solution as i cut a big hole in my bonnet to fit a scoop.
Factory one wouldn't suit the new hole. Looking at car builders peel and stick heat shield, mishimoto silica heat barrier, both have adhesive backing.
Will be fitting a turbo so interested in reducing the heat on the bonnet.

@frankenyota : Have you noticed any flutter, vibration, or twisting of the hood after cutting the hole?

Good question. Even the stock hood jiggles about at hwy speeds. Many other makes models as well. I’d personally never cut into mine unless someone shows me empirical evidence that shows it actually does something of material benefit and even then I wouldn’t. Lol

I'll let you know, its bloody sticky stuff. Its been on there for a few months now and no signs of coming off.

Not hoping for it, but no stick on product adhesive I have ever used last’s in the Arizona heat. Always seems to dry out and fail.

The original sealer on the bonnet ribs had cracked and was missing so resealed the ribs when I cut the hole for the scoop. Bonnet sits nice at speed with the stops adjusted.

I replaced mine, and still have some clearcoat peel (it sits outside in the STX sun all year).
What I did NOT do and should have was to add some adhesive between the ribs and the hood itself before I attached the hood liner. Some of the existing adhesive had dried out and let the hood rattle against the ribs, just a little bit. Annoying!

@COYS how is the adhesion of the bracing to the hood skin?

These braces were completely delaminated on my '97 and I had some flutter/looseness of the top skin. After re-adhering the skin to the bracing the hood shows no fluttering/looseness.

Mine r fine thx. If you look closer toward the windshield it flutters about on the fwy.
You have another issue then. Possibly delamination as others mentioned.
