Is it feasible to get a race-car style removable steering wheel setup installed onto my '76 stock steering column or am I looking at a new colume from IDIDIT or FLaming River and going from there. I know that an adapter is needed to convert to a Grant or other brand aftermarket wheel, does that same adapter allow you to run a removable wheel?

Why do I need this? I use my LC as a mobile shooting bench on the farm and it is nice to lay the windshield down, set up rests and shoot right over the hood. My stock Kenworth sized wheel makes this practically impossible.

Thanks!

Grant makes a removable mounting kit for their wheels. I would think that they have an application for a LC but never checked. I still have one kicking around here that goes on a Ford column. Still trying to decide if I put that column (tilt) in the 40 or not.

Grant does make one.
Fits on stock column.

Thanks!

Has anyone used a removable setup with the stock Kenworth wheel and, if so, which one?

Won't be able to do it with a stock wheel.

However, there are multiple 17" wheels out there that can work.

Holy old thread dig Batman!

I have nothing to add - never got around to that project. Maybe this year...

Haystax, I used these parts from Speedway Motors. Splined hub is 3/4" and wheel is 17" just like stocker. I used this when I replaced complete steering to Saginaw type. Just turned top of 3/4" shaft to fit stock column upper bearing and used 3/4" 4 bolt flange on bottom end. Very smooth operation. This is the same type of setup used on IMCA modified and Late Model racecars. Very dependable!!!!!
