Red Top Optima battery - 80 series?

I haven't had any problems ( and I get them for a rediculously low price:D)

So you have an in? Are you willing to share? What can you get a matched pair of industrial D31A for?

There is NO NEED to extend/untie/modify your terminals if you run a red top and you buy the correct battery in the first place. As stated, the 34R (reverse) is the correct battery for the 80. The terminals fit perfectly with no modification provided that it is kept at proper height.

To keep it at proper height, you will also need to use the included 1" spacer on the bottom of the battery. It just snaps on the bottom of the battery. The factory hold down assembly will then fit at the same height as OEM. You should end up with around one inch of the "all-thread" sticking up through the angled top piece of the hold down.

The Optima part number is 9003-151. You can find it here

If you opt for the yellow or blue top, there is no "reverse" 34 model in those versions...some modification will be necessary, ala what the others here are describing.

Probably not worth the shipping to Omaha. UPS says about $45 @.
I think I get the 34's for 135-140@

Not interested in 34s, and I'm not sure why everyone seems to be putting them in.

The right battery for an 80 is a 27F. The closest Optima has dimensionally to a 27F is a D31A. Bonus, the D31A is a dual purpose starting/deep cycle battery with twice the warranty and ~30% more CA. So, pass on the 34s.

I bought my D31A industrial matched pair for $285 (pair) shipped about 3 years ago. I've yet to find any deal that compares, and of course, the company I bought them from isn't there anymore.

If you like the 34s, you'll love the D31A. It is under 'Commercial' on the Optima web site.

I've actually used them before. Not in my rig but on jobs I've done. I had no idea that they would fit in an 80.

We don't deal with them because the 34's fit in just about everything. I don't know if I'd be interested in running them in my rig because I really don't even need a dual setup right now. So that batt. would really be overkill. It's just that I have a brand new yellow top that Interstate gave me for free and it seems like a good time to do a dual setup, and I'd like them to match.

I'm getting a quote on the 31's right now and I'll let you know what I find out.

They fit. I bought my first one before I was sure. It was a gamble. That one is now in my wife's truck and I have a matched set in mine.

Thank you. My brother in law has been eying my old ones for when I refresh them. I don't like running batteries past about 4 years in a trail truck. This fall might be a good time to do it if I can find a good price on them.
