The main contact is Oscar. He moved from his former location to the current location, which is owned by his nephew. Oscar is an older guy, very quiet, very thorough, and conscientious.
He will do all the work In-House, except for shaving the head. He's straight-up about whether you will need new parts, or can reuse the original parts. If an issue comes up (more $$$), he will call you before he goes any further.
Since the facility is small, you may have to wait a few days until he can (physically) fit your truck in (he said I could expect a week, or more, to do the job but had it done in just a few days).
His nephew is Napo (short for Napolean - seriously). He would be the second contact, as well as the owner. I didn't really deal with him much, but he was nice enough. Their business card devotes one side to advertising them as Landcruiser Specialists.
They also handle the three main Japanese import brands and their spin-offs. Also states that he is a Factory-trained Mechanic. Don't really know, but his shop is always full whenever I stop by.
Tell Oscar that William sent you, the guy who is moving to CR with his girl.
Note; Also included in this Head Job is a return visit (after 500 to 700 miles), to re-adjust the valves. This is SOP. No extra charges involved.
One more thing; I told him I need to do the Power Steering Pump. He says he can do it for $225 (I'm pretty sure that was the amount). He will rebuild it, if possible, at this price. Includes all labor - removing and re-installing. Otherwise, he will get a rebuilt unit, and it may cost a bit more.
He prefers to use all original parts on Landcruisers. Didn't care for the GM/ Saginaw PS conversion. It's up for debate, but I have no qualms about heeding any of his opinions.
Good luck...
I'm finding a lot of these guys in this part of town are VERY REASONABLE with their pricing and very competent in their abilities. I moved from Redondo Beach to Bell Gardens (saving cash to move to Central America), and cannot believe huge difference in quotes.
None of these guys are "illegals" or back-alley shops. Well-established and knowledgeable. Plenty of people warned me about moving/living here, but I have had no problems (and I am white as they come). No animosity. No jacking up the rates for the "gringo". Just hard-working people who know their stuff.
