Rear tray for my rusty '86 pickup

Worked on some diagnosing of sorts. There's a terrie noise and slight vibration in the driveline. Seems it was coming from the rear. Got the u joints replaced. It didn't solve the problem. I then realized it accentuates when turning left. Thought it be rear wheel bearing. Replacedt hat and mind you, the noise and vibration is still there. The diff oil was pretty dark and metally, so I pulled it and really found no fault. I did replace the carrier and bearings just to be sure. I am going to throw that back in, but I'm not holding my breath. The front wheel bearings were replaced a year or two ago. There's no play and no audible noise when freewheeling. If the diff is not the problem, what could it be?

Noise appeared gradually, getting worse with age. Now it's really loud after I get some heat in the components. Thing is, I suspended the truck on the jackstands, got it in 5th gear and gave it some speed. The right-side wheel free wheels without issue and keeps going. The left-hand wheel eventually stops and even when in gear, when I let off acceleration, at idle, in 5th gear, the motion eventually gets transferred to the wheel on the right and the left-hand side comes to a full stop. The brakes are fine no rub or drag either. It feels like something is binding. I did this exercise before I took the diff out. Now, everything seemed ok in there, but I will report finding once diff goes back in.
Whomever can figure this out gets a $20 for a 12 pack. Cheers.

did you actually inspect the spider gear components while it was apart ?
axle shafts aren't bent?

I'm measuring for axle shaft runout tonight. The spiders look fine, turn fine. I really can't find anything suspicious. But, let's see what happens now after I get it back in.

****en gasket was too small. Couldn't throw the diff in. I hate these damn online parts places. Sigh

I just use permatex gear oil RTV and haven’t had issues as well.

In the middle pic, I am comparing it to my HJ60 unit, since that needs an ac compressor as well!

So this AC comp did not the fit the 60. Everything worked, manifolds and all but the mounting holes on the top weren't far enough apart. I proceeded to install in my truck, evacuated the system and charged. I now have excellent working air conditioning. Now back to the driveline issue. I may revisit the front wheel bearings because I am stumped and have no clue what in the hell is going on. The vibration and noise is still there.

Nice! A/C is always a good part of driving at times. Good luck on the front end

Found that the inner bwar8ng shows heat induced color8ng. Looks like I may have tightened them too much when I replaced them. Although I measured the preload.
Who knows.
Here's a pic.

First pic is inner bearing and 2nd is the outer. I have bearins en route. Hope to start working on the front bumper for this in a week or two.

are those a quality bearing or no?
i set up the bearings pretty tight and have never had any issues like this.

These were koyos. I am not sure why this happened. I'm thinking, maybe, improper grease? Must make sure to buy bearing grease. Could be that, no? I don't recall what grease i used tbh.

possibly. looking like maybe had some grit in there.
either way, just spend a few bucks and buy a high quality grease. ive been partial to amsoil and other hugh end synthetics. preferably water proof/resistant stuff

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. I think i just had tractor supply stuff in there. Pfffttt, should have known better
