Hey guys, there is a guy on the FJ forum making beefier rear recovery points, reasonably priced I think. They will fit the GX too. Just thought I would point you to him.

That's a fair price. with two recovery points you can rig a bridle and spread the load.

OP, thanks for the tip! Considering getting a pair. You said that they will fit the GX. Do you have a set of these? Any pictures?

I bought a pair for my FJ. At the moment I have one on the FJ and one on the GX. I'll see if I can get a picture, but it is a pretty simple item.

Been selling these for a few years. Works with the 460.

New here, just picked up a 2017 460 and looking to add a receiver hitch + recovery point(s).

Thoughts on a factory Lexus class IV receiver w/ a recovery point insert versus a Curt class III receiver w/ two of your 200 Series tow points?

Class IV feels like overkill / overweight for my purposes but don't trust the Class III as a recovery point. Would like to fit a 265/70R17 KO2 back there down the road and seems like the smaller receiver with twin tow points might make that easier.

Considering the tow rating for GX460's is 6,500 lbs, and one would never want to even pull that much for any distance other than maybe a trailer full of junk to the local dump. I'd go with the Class III. I've never heard of anyone pulling off or destroying a hitch from using it as a recovery point.
I have see axles get torn out from under a vehicle when using that as a recovery point!

Those recovery points bolt to the frame, not the hitch.

In terms of recovery using the hitch, the factory configuration is much stronger. The Curt would torque the rear crossmember in a hard pull, but would probably be fine for things other than, say, somebody stuck up to their axles in mud.

I had a Curt hitch on my GX470. The quality is not that good, all of the powdercoating chipped off. It was also ugly.

I replaced it with an OEM Class IV hitch. The weight and clearance are the same vs. the Curt. Both hitches bolt to the same points as the linked recovery points, in addition to two bolts behind those, and more bolts to the rear cross-member (for the OEM only, but not the Curt that skips that point). So the OEM class IV hitch should be a much stronger recovery point than the custom points, as it attaches to the frame in 5 places instead of 2. I would buy OEM and skip the Curt.

@BigSwede Apologies, my second option wording was a bit clunky. The two options I tried to describe were 1) Using a Class IV for both light towing and recovery or 2) using a Class III for light towing only while relying on the frame-mounted Trail Tailor units for recovery.
