Went ahead and ordered these. Doesn't seem to be a consensus pick so no biggie as it's just a simple lift strut. The McMaster Carr seem like a good option, but I don't feel like fiddling with with fitment (even though it seems pretty simple). $28 direct fit with free shipping and a "lifetime warranty" for the win today! Thanks for the replies...if they suck, I'll let you know!

Good luck. They are just struts, either they work or that bank vault door of a lift gate hits you in the head.

FWIW, I have the struts from Cruiser Yard aka Jason aka @arcteryx

I have the front and rear struts on my 92 and 93. Will also order them for my son's 92 when the time comes. I've had them for over a year and they are a direct fit and work well. Even in cold weather.

They almost work too well. You have to pull down on the hatch in order to get them to work. Which I think is a good thing.

Do they lift the gate above the factory height of horizontal?

I believe the stroke length is 18.39, which would be horizontal...I can confirm once they arrive. At 6' tall, I don't really need any extra lift.

Boy I think so. I'm almost positive. I will snap a pic in a few when I get done at my daughter's show choir.

I don't have a tape measure with me but it appears that they open the hatch about an inch or so higher than level. I can put a tape on the extended stroke length when I get home.

Not to make it MORE complicated measure from pivot point to pivot point on the strut it self. The factory measures 18 and two little lines:hillbilly:

That picture was taken at -6 degrees. I didn't push up on the hatch but I think it actually has a little more room to go up.

-6° is there a shrinkage factor I should consider

I wanted to go to the lake tomorrow because its going to be 74°

McMaster Carr ones have been great on my rig for last few years. Hatch opens up higher, no more hitting head!

This is a link to the ones that fit the 80. Plug and play.

Read the thread about it that was previously linked. If I recall, it is 90 PSI.
