Anyone interested in this? I think this can be swapped into a GX.

Or, even better, look for an axle from a 2010+ FJ or 4Runner (150 series based). 120 series based trucks (2003-2009) all use 8in ring and pinions while the 150 series went to 8.2 in.

You can get cryo'd gears with a better ratio for bigger tires AND an ARB for that money.

I must be shopping at the wrong places. I haven't seen an ARB rear locker for less than $900. Then add a quality compressor, $250. And that's if you can build a rear yourself? Proper torquing, setting backlash on the ring and pinion gears to the spec'ed hundredths of a inch or so is not easily done without proper tools. An axle swap is pretty straight forward, and the wiring for a OEM e-locker is no harder than wiring a compressor for an air locker will be. Will it be as tough as an ARB? No. Will it be as strong as a 150 series? No. But for the price and the simplicity of the swap, I think it is a good deal. You will also have spare gears (if it came from an auto), axles, brakes, etc.

Will a 3rd gen. 4Runner locker fit in a 4th gen. 4Runner? I picked up a 3rd gen E-locker to put in my 99 4X4 but wondering would it work in my 04 4X4 V8?

I've swapped the axle from an FJ with elocker into my GX, but it was free to me. For 1000 just into the axle you'd be better off with an 8.2 like mentioned.

nice!! Can't wait to talk to you guys again and check out your truck at Summit, SSSpeed!

I agree. Where on earth could one find these parts for $1000? If those are the parts you want, then this axle would not be what you want for that kind of money. But, I don't think it is that bad of a deal. I bet that extra 0.2" of ring gear make an enormous difference...

I loved the e-lockers in my 80. If excercised regularly they can engage quite quickly and really do not have many issues. From the pure standpoint of simplicity dropping in an elocker rear sure sounds nice to me, but I like to press the easy button whenever possible.

Bumping a old thread verses starting a new one.
Not sure I ever got a clear answer to the question which I may not have made clear. Will a 3rd gen 4Runner/1st gen Tacoma E-locker diff fit in a 4th gen 4Rinner rear axle housings?

I agreed to a push button locker but for snow and ice driving on paved roads Trac and Stability Control hard hard to beat. Having both a locker and these other safety features would be great.

Can fit but not straight forward. Need driveshaft flange change. I did 4.30 swap to my GX.
