I just removed my VC and everything is going back together. I can't seem to get the end of the drive shaft over the bolt/lip on the rear diff. I am giving all I can to compress the shaft but I still cant get it. Am I not strong enought?

Any tips for getting it over the bolt/lip?

Also, anyone know what the torque specs should be for the 4 bolts on each side? Not sure if the manual I have is for my year.

If it's been excessively greased, the spline cavity can have too much grease preventing compression. Mark orientation, pull it apart, clean out the excessive grease and put it back how it was. The hardware is fine thread, so care is needed, the studs on the transfer flange are difficult to replace, so... The rear hardware torque is 65ft/lb.

Thanks for that tip, I will take a look tomorrow morning when its light out again.

I already got 3 of the nuts on with locktite on the transfer case but one is very difficult to get on. I can finger tighten it on and tighten it lightly with a socket but it started to cross thread on the nut.

Is that type of nut readily available from the toyota parts counter?

probably not the exact part number for your truck but if you bring it in they may be able to match it up. ive had two of the same parts with different numbers because it was for a different model

According to my records, this is the part number for the rear drive shaft bolts and nuts.

Also remove the Zerk , this will allow compressed air to escape when you push the drive shaft towards the front of truck while trying to line up the rear.

Oh and yes a good work out once in a while would help.

Finally got it in, removing grease definitely helped. I cleaned up the threads with a razor blade and I fixed the messed up bolt. I did end up with a nice black eye this morning after the drive shaft fell directly on my orbital...
