Rear cross member (1 Viewer)

I am starting a restoration on a 71 FJ40. I need to replace the rear cross member. Is there any reason I cant use a 74-78 crossmember if I change out the tail lights?

crossmember, rear bumper it's the same thing.

and yes your plan should work.

Yep I ment the bumper or rear crossmember....
Thanks for the opinion, I could not see why I could not use the later model rear crossmember either!

i was thinking about this and came up with this.
it's a crossmember. it's part of the frame. and has bodymounts on it.
the 40's don't have a rear bumper, they have/had those two bumperettes.

but whatever, i don't get paid enough to think.....

My fault. When I think of crossmember, I always think of that tube behind the tranny.

But yer right it is a crossmember.
