Rear Camera Relocation? (360 view) (2 Viewers)

All finally got my GX and I’m looking to add a tire carrier but concerned about blocking the rear camera, and how that might affect the 360 view. Has any one successfully relocated the rear camera with a 360 view? Also in case it comes up. I’m looking at Rigd or the Detours of Maine tire hitch swing-outs. Thanks for the help!

Edit: Links for what? The tire carrier? (Just updated my orinogal post) It will no doubt block the rear cam.

The 360* kits are just 4 cameras and the pictures are “blended” together. As for relocating the rear, Southern Style Off-road makes it easy enough to do with their kit but I will say that Toyota apparently uses different model cameras. The camera that is on my 2013 GX460 did not fit the adapter piece in their universal kit. I had to modify it and the camera is just being held in place with double sided tape for now. My problem is because my spare is offset to the passenger side my camera angle is off center. I will likely relocate it again to the side of the gas can carrier on my Dobinson’s rear double swing out but I need to come up with some kind of housing for it to safely reside in.

Thanks. I’m guessing it should not be terribly difficult to splice the wires to the camera and extend them, though I am no electrician. Just have to figure out how to run the wires from the original location to the Rigd and mount it.

That’s the good thing about the SSO kit. It has the cable to extend the wiring. You have to cut and splice the cable they provide but it does make it easier than trying to figure it out on your own. You could run the cable from the door thru the grommet on the passenger side and then down thru the grommet in the floor on the passenger side behind the panels in the cargo / 3rd row area. You might have to drill a small hole in the bumper cover to pass the wires through (I didn’t have a stock bumper on mine when I bought it so I’m not familiar with where you could pass the wires). Just remember to leave a little slack for the wires to move with the swing function.

Prior to your correction, I thought perhaps you were referring to a camera relocation kit and not the swing out itself.

Kaon has this available. Perhaps modify it?

I know you didn't direct that to me but thanks @Washingtontaco . That gave me a visual of what I want to do. All I need to do is bend up a piece like the piece that holds the camera itself and then attach it to the side of the jerry can holder between it and the tire.

if you take the back panel off the interior of your rear door you can access your rear camera. Pull it out, plug the hole, get some, I think it was 4 strand wire. Cut the camera wire and extend it with your new wire. Route the wire out the corner of the door. Make a simple mount that the camera can be attached to and mount that to your tire carrier, perhaps the center of your spare tire rim or wherever your license plate is. That's all I did after I had my MetalTech rear bumper mounted. It's pretty simple.

Yeah I seen your setup after I posted. Nice job! I think that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m hoping it’s just four wires like you say. Also TBH once I snip it I can’t screw it up because I’m not too confident on having to re-run the wire. It would be nice if Rigd had a solution for the GX’s. But I’ll get it done and post.
