Thank you for the response. I don't understand car HVAC very well. Why do you say likely the evaporator when there is no cold freon reaching the evaporator? I guess flow could be blocked? Is that a common mode of failure?

Thanks for everyone on the posts/details on the magnetic valve but I am confused. Some suggest is a a diverter valve that "splits" the system but it looks like a simple "on/off" inline valve with one input and one output.
it sounds like the way it works is the cold freon flow is split and the side that goes to the rear is controlled by this magnetic valve but NOT the side that goes to the front (unless it has its own separate magnetic valve.)
Again, if I have a nice cold rear AC and nice cold console frig than is this magnetic valve something that is a possible issue for me?

The "T" where the front and rear systems split has been staring me in the face the whole time. It is definitely BEFORE the magnetic valve so the mag valve must control only "on/off" to rear part of system. The left side of the T in the photo just goes around engine bay to the passenger side where it goes through firewall right where cabin evaporator is.
I guess the expansion valve is at or is part of the evaporator assembly. I think I'm done messing with this looking for something. Car is going to have to go to San Jose and have someone take the whole g-damn dashboard apart.

I know I've got a diagram somewhere, I also have an entire rear AC line set sitting around. I'll lay it out tomorrow and get photos. Pretty sure the fridge is a constantly open system so it can run without the cabin ac blowing, front and rear systems are switched open or closed. I'll dig it up.
Does anyone have a photo of the R134 refrigerant sticker under the hood for a dual AC system with no fridge?

Leon - Do you still have your stash of rear AC parts? Curious if you have the refrigerant lines and if you are willing to sell them off?
I am looking for this section that will connect to the fridge console. If your parts came off a truck with rear AC and fridge console, they will work for me. Let me know.

Hey all, i’ve completely installed all parts into my 80 for the rear ac,
this includes the blower unit, the roof vent, all ac pipes and majority of the wiring
the car i got all my parts out of sadly had the dash wiring harness cut in half so i only have the wiring from the back all the way to the dash, not including all the plugs and locations for the wires, does anyone know where all the wires run to and know where i can splice into?

Hey guys, just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the info provided on this topic over the years. I am starting a rear AC install on a 97 model. Currently stumped on the wiring harness needed to connect the blower motor to the controls on the roof. I have searched everywhere and cant seem to find either a harness or a wiring diagram. I figured I asked here in case any one who has a rear AC setup would be able to post pictures of their harness and I may be able to recreate a wire harness off that. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
The roof controls harness should be 88610-60060-03

Not a small job.
Not sure of anyone having done it properly. Can't see why you couldn't make your own harness and run it as a standalone system. I'm not sure if the standard AC amplifier is the same part no. as an amplifier from a car with rear AC.
Either that or pulling the entire body harness from a VX and swapping it into your car, also not a small job.
I can post up more pages from the wiring diagram that might help, I'll get some photo's of how the wiring is run through the body later today.
definitely not easy, i did end up pulling everything out of a VX body with all the wiring but the guy i bought it off was stupid and cut all the plugs off
Yea the amplifiers are the same part number
that would be super handy man i’d really appreciate that. and any assistance understanding the diagram would be a huge help
Thanks again for all the additional information. So far I have learned there are at least two different units available. One of these pics I found on another thread I am sure you all have seen, there is a heater & A/C option. The unit I am installing only has the A/C function. We were able to trace the wires individually, unfortunately the diagram on a few post above did not match to our unit and was very different. I think we got the custom harness made, but we are running as a standalone unit. So the compressor has to be turned on in front in order for the rear to blow cold, from there you can turn off or adjust speed, but not really temperature. I don't see us needing to turn on the rear A/C without the front already being on, so this is not really an issue for us. Also if we want the rear A/C on, no sense in having anything other than max cold coming out, otherwise we will just shut it off and regulate the front climate controls. Maybe once we actually use we might see different, but for now this should work for us. Next up is making the high & low side refrigerant lines.
