I am in the middle of installing the rear lift springs on my 60. It is the MAF Safari 4" with anti inversion shackles. The problem is that with the springs oriented like the tech support stated my driveline is too short!! What the heck? A 4" lift and it is too short:mad: ... The spring center pins are off-set. If I flip the springs around and run the full wrap eye side to the rear/ shackle and the half wrap eye mounted on the frame I think I can run the driveline the way it is.

My Options are:

Flip springs
Re- drill and center pins
Buy off-set spring pads
Driveline mods

MAF tech is closed till monday so any help is greatly appreciated.

The drive shaft has a slip yoke and can be extended. I have used a rachet strap to pull the axel rearward with great success. Some people don't disconnect the drive shaft when doing sping work, but I have allways found it to make the job eaiser in the long run.

you using the correct springs?

Front and rear springs are different lengths..

Dynosor: The slip yoke is completly compressed all the way in and is bottoming out on the transfer case. I could in theory pull the axle back to slide in the shaft but once released it will be full compressed again.

Mace: yes I am using the correct springs. The fronts are a about 4" shorter in length and are a different part #. I tried to orient the rear springs the way the tech said to and even reversed his order thinking I had a brain fart when installing.

Thank you both for the help. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

take a pic of the DS and post it.

Commonly, the slip joint on a DS is packed full of grease. Making it almost imposible to compress properly..

Remove zirk fitting to let the greese out, or just rermove the shaft.

Bingo!!! The grease issue was totally it. I removed the zirk and compressed the driveline another 2" or so and go a bunch of nasty water logged lube out of it. Cleaned it up and put in new grease.

Do I still need to worry abot the length of the driveline or do you guys think I am in good shape?

It looks as though I have about 1-2" of compression left in there before bottoming,

Thanks again for the help!!
