Looking at this LX570. 2010 with only 70k miles. Lived most of its life in NY. Are there any other areas that I should request photos of?

Thanks!

Depending on the price/deal, that doesn't look like dealbreaker to me.

Back side of the rear axle and the rear crossmember with the trailer receiver seems to get the most amount of rust. Front of the LCAs too.

Brake backing plates will likely be a problem. Also seized front LCA cam bolts.

Personally if it’s new home base will be Georgia, where I assume there isn’t road salt, I’d hold out for an actual clean one. People from the rust belt will say this looks acceptable but it’s all relative. Never having to deal with rusted bolts or parts is priceless, IMO. For them it’s a fact of life.

Ehhh. Doesn't look TOO bad. Make sure and look at the entire front suspension as well. That rear axle looks like some surface rust is treatable. Look above the tow hooks in front and up around the rear receiver.

Buy a Michigan wrench. It’s a matter of time where it will grow and spread. Depends on how long you plan to have it. If this is meant to be your “forever” cruiser, I would buy a cleaner rig. Price matters as mentioned above.

I think you fellas have talked me out of it. But if any of y’all are interested here is the link. Great mileage and salesman was doing a bunch of leg work for me today. Mitchell I think is his name.

OP has decided, but you made the point I forgot to. Length of ownership is a key factor.

UPDATE:

Couldn’t help myself and asked for one more view. Not good to my untrained eye. Any experts feel differently?

Rust is about as subjective as "what is the best lift and tires?..." If that was a 60/62 then I wouldn't consider that bad, as long as the lower section of the doors and fenders looked good. Thorough coating of fluid film would more or less arrest that level of oxidation.

However, for a $35k 200 series, I would pass. Way cleaner examples out there for the same price.

I hear ya! This one only has 71k miles and interior/exterior are as spotless as you could hope for in a 10 year old truck. I hear ya though!

Keep in mind that its a 11 yo truck that is well out of warranty and is going to need some work to keep it running. I would not want to turn a wrench on that thing, even for basic stuff like brakes, shocks, exhaust, etc. If you are paying someone else to do the wrenching...slightly different story...but they will charge you accordingly.

Got to pick your poison. I bought one from N.C. a year ago. Underside is perfect, drivetrain is great, the interior has issues though.

It's surface rust, and isn't that bad. However as stated, for $35k asking, I would pass on it.

My first LC was an '11 200 from the northeast. I live in TN. It was 10X crustier underneath than the pix you provided. Yes it is a pain. Yes, it looks ugly. No, it really doesn't affect daily driving. That being said, I ended up trading it in for a '14 lower miles and a CHERRY undercarraige. Still drives the same, but now I just have one less thing to worry about.

In the end, I would spend a few extra thousand for a clean body w higher mileage rather than a lower mileage with a crusty body.

Personally, at that price I would pass. Rust is a tricky thing, might not look horrible but that is only what you can see. Road salt gets everywhere and sits and eats like a fat kid at a birthday party. Rust gets worse over time and is difficult to stop. Working on that rig would suck today and would be even worse 5 years down the road.

Plus- Who would want anything that came from NY. :flipoff2:
