I read today there where only 350 1983 fj40's sold in the us with power steering and a/c anone know this to be true?
Anyone no where i could find more info on this? I have one a dont want to hack it up if this is true.

That number sounds really high to me...I have been told less than 125...

If your truck is clean and original, I would not hack it up.

I think it is around 300...a guy up here in AK has a nice one

No real numbers out there, I have been told 300 and like 30% have the A/C and P/S option. I have had three and two of them have P/S and A/C and one had the rare bug catcher side windows on the front doors, I hear that this is due to supply and used the non US doors on the later production ones.

Maybe a 83 registry is in order???

Dam!! I was really wanting to hack this one up maybe i should sell it to a good home and start with another. If its that rare someone should restore it or i could chop it up and tell everyone i cut the hell out of a rare rust free cruiser to make a trail truck.

aatlas1 .... I agree on the registry

Don't sell it, just buy another. Some Cruiserheads even have seven.

I don't think it's hording, just preserving a fine automobile (truck)!

Its yours and you can do what you want with it but once you beat and cut it's value drops tremendously so aside from sentiment its not a very money wise choice.. sell and finance a built 40.. or keep it and be glad later when the thrill of thrashing fades.

???? That thrill fades:crybaby: ...... A buddy seen an 83 with p/s and a/c go for 47k on e-bay mine need's a lot of work to fatch that much but would take more time than money to do.

There is a post on the 47k one...It is all new parts, ground up.

do what you wish, its yours, but there aint many 83's and ya might be $$ ahead by selling it and buying something "lesser" to cut up into a trail rig.........

83 model, like any post 78 Fj40, is very intensive/expensive restore if there are rust issues. Bring at least 10,000 and a year's worth of your free labor, assuming you can weld, fabricate, do body work, and paint. Once it's done, other than the fact that you can say "I have an 83", it's no different to drive and operate than any post 78 FJ40. I'd probably sell it to someone who wants to pay "holy grail" money, and buy a nice 79 up.

Cut the dam thing, But I want to see a build up on it:beer:

You can restore any FJ40 to new for 20-25k if it is complete and origonal. You can add up to 10k if it needs an entire tub but you can replace most rot for around 3k.

Labor included.

Like tex and the others said pick a 78 or earlier.
That saddle tank really limits what you can do with the drivetrain, the frames are thinner and the sheet metal is the same
