Yes Leo! Now you have your excuse to get those Radflos you've been craving :flipoff2:. And custom front upper control arms, Timbren compression bump stops, 1" body lift...:D

What size winch is adequate for the 100? I have an m8000 from my FJC that i could use, but I'm wondering if this is strong enough. Thoughts?

Does this look like a blown shock? Just noticed it today

looks like a mild blown shock. I've blown many shocks and they can seize up (really bad ride) all the way to soaked in oil and dripping...

do a 1" body lift, you know you want to!

If you search a little you will find several people that are running m8000's on thier 100's. Just add a snatch block. Spresso is running a 9.5 I believe and I am running a superwinch 9k. you will get varied responses. some will swear you need at least a 12k.... If you have an m8000 install it and use it.

Alright, I was bound to ask sooner or later. But the 100 really lacks in articulation as we all know. The front is a moot point short of spending thousands on UCA's and shocks. So my question is this:

What is the most travel you can add on a budget (I'm sure N74L will pop up ).

I have the OE Replacement Bilstiens and my god are they short! So in short, the longest shock can stick on the back and extending the breathers and brake lines is what? Or did I just roll eyes at my answer above? I've actually been trying to find a set of N74L's to play with and really see if they make a difference, but the thing is.... once the spring de-compresses, and nothing is pushing down on the tire, is it really worth it? Does the extra travel in the rear really make a difference once the spring looses its "push" downwards?

If this post creates to much of a bitch fit and all that I will take it down. I just want a simple answer so I can start my quest... yeah I know about the search function :flipoff2:

I figured i'd probably need to use a snatch block. I'm beginning to think i should get a winch extension line in case.

In theory you can do a lot more to the rear than just the l-shock mod (4", 6" lift, etc.). The limiting factor is the front. Lowest cost is probably the L-shock mod. I believe the set-up Spresso has done is close to or exceeded the L-shock mod, but at a much greater cost.

The front end is hopeless. even with UCA and longer shocks it's still not a lot of travel compares to other offroad vehicles. The rear is very similar to the 80 which makes me think gobs of travel is obtainable with a few minor mods.

because 80's have the solid front, they have more lift and flex available. I.e. you see more travel due to the SFA. Unfortunately there is only so much that can be done.... Until a front end long travel kit is developed.... In my opinion, if you want the most rear travel for the least cost, go with the L-shock. I know it can be a hot topic...unfortunately, in all the threads I have read about it and times I have asked, no one has really put up a good argument against it... or that I have been able to find anyway.

Here's my 2 cents: The OME L shocks are relatively affordable. Give them a try! What works for you might not for me and so on. Like all suspension mods I just recommend you cycle the suspension so you know exactly where it will bottom and where it will top out and bump stop it/strap it/whatever it takes to control the extremes (you don't want the shock taking big/abrupt compression hits).

Ask 100 guys on any forum about the real value of unloaded springs and you'll likely get 100 different answers. I don't really see the harm as long as the spring can not shift position at full droop. Otherwise you will need to retain it.

Another point about increased down travel of the rear axle: Your axle will shift to the passenger side due to how the panhard bar swings...just be sure to check it while you are test cycling the suspension to be sure it doesn't bind on anything (frame, bump stops being the typical candidates).

Worst case: If you don't like them then turn them over in the Classifieds ;)

Shhh! Highlander blue book is considerably lower. I might have to buy that one!

I can remove my resonator and it will make little difference to the sound, but not much.
I shouldnt remove my cats as I will get a check engine light becuase of the 02 sensor.
I can remove the muffler and leave the cats and it will be ***** loud but ok.

or

I can spend the next six months trying to find high flow cats and a high flow muffler for the cruiser.
I can get a generic high flow mufler for a GMC sierra (I know I can get these) but its expensive.

thoughts???

I was told recently that just changing the first section of pipe after the headers would improve exhaust flow a lot and improve the sound, because Toyota, being conservative, made that section quite restricted. This was at a 4x4 motorshow in Melbourne, and the guys did this sort of stuff for a living.

I was asking about their supercharger installations, but they said they wouldn't do an installation without first changing that section of pipe to improve flow. They could then add a supercharger, but would probably recommend a set of extractors, and maybe a full system.

Maybe you should look into that first bit of pipe.

Found a LX470 steering wheel with wood locally for $150...

will a 2001-2005 steering wheel for an lx470 fit my 98 100 series?
If it doesnt let me know.... If it will fit my 2000 I might buy it off your hands.....

I was told that a 2000 year steering wheel would fit my 1998 LX470, but I can't answer for a 2001.

Be careful handling it with the airbag still in there!
