Well there's another strike against the CSF.

So at this point it looks like CSF = poor quality overall; Mishimoto = tons of red tape with the warranty (but haven't seen much yet to speak either direction about their quality); Ron Davis = ungodly expensive and NO warranty

A quick look on Summit came up with Griffin aluminum radiators at just over $900: Griffin ExactFit Radiator Details for - 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser PartNumber: TOY-00011 - https://www.griffinrad.com/load_details3.php?PartID=25&year=1987&make=Toyota&model=Land%20Cruiser&select_Main_Group=&select_Sub_Group=&select_Sub_Group_model=&select_Sub_Group_Engine=&select_Sub_Group_HorsePower=&key_id=TOY-00011
Haven't done any research on these yet, and they're definitely pricey but at least not as bad as the Ron Davis units.

Cruiser Corps also sells an aluminum radiator but like I said in my first post, no idea who manufactures it or of the quality of the build.

Griffin also recently changed their construction method to using epoxy now too.

Well that's another one definitely off the table.

I’m running a Mishimoto. Had a mounting stud snap on install. Their warranty is truly fantastic. Sent an email late at night with a picture. New radiator shipped the next day. The replacement didn’t have any issues at all and cools better than whatever POS the PO had in there. Also, I’m in AZ.

If my RD rad goes to crap, I’ll go to the best warranty. I did the same with car batteries lately. They all last the same and are made by 1 of 3 global companies , who has the best replacement warranty gets it

I went with CSF when my original radiator started cracking along the cap. The shop and I looked at a few options and CSF seemed like the best at the time for the 3FE. I think there's only the one radiator from CSF now and FJ60s just run with the trans cooler lines blocked off. Been running some roadtrips in this southern heat wave and the cooling has been fairly good. About where OEM was.

The shop has a high opinion of CSF, I guess time will tell how this one holds up. IMO, I prefer the aesthetic of the brass radiator over an aluminum one. I don't think there's many options for brass outside of CSF.

Going off aesthetics alone, I could go either way myself. The look of a copper & brass radiator gives it a nice stock appearance, but an aluminum does still look nice and clean.

That said, I've had no complaints about my CSF either as far as performance. It's worked considerably well with my Contour dual fan assembly and PWM controller even in the >100º heat of late summer here in the inland PNW. Given what @OSS states though, I wonder if they've always been made of the thinnest available stuff, or if there's been a design/production change at some point in recent years. Mine hasn't shown any signs of the fins deteriorating yet though (they actually feel pretty stout), BUT I also don't live near the coast where salty sea air is getting to it.

If @Rustyj41's experience with Mishimoto's warranty is the norm and not an exception, it sounds like it might actually be the best way to go as far as balance between price, warranty, and for longevity (again, if installed with a bonding wire to prevent long term electrolysis).

Amayama and Megazip show a radiator available from Toyota still (16400-61040} but it is $1600 and shows Discontinued when searching us toyota part sites. Who wants to gamble?

I can buy at least one complete and running dirtbag 60 for that price 😎

It seems that the older CSF radiators are of higher quality based on the feedback I got from my local oldskool radiator guy. I just had mine cleaned, pressure checked and refinished by him and he said this older one was right up there with OEM quality, YMMV.

And it might actually have a good radiator!

@DrRock that seems to have been the common consensus of the older units. I wonder at what point the quality dropped.

I'm still going to check with the local radiator guy in my area and see how much it would be to repair and clean up my spare radiator. It'd be nice to have a known good one waiting in the wings that I could swap in at the first sign of failure in my current unit.

Griffin has been gluing their tanks on with epoxy for years.

RockAuto lists the CSF 2708 for $308. Hard to beat considering current prices. To me, a HD all brass is preferable.

I got my CSF from the local PHX Performance Radiator shop around 2018 I think. Interestingly, they don't carry CSF anymore (too problematic??). But they now have this copper/brass one listed above.

At almost $1100 it sure isn't cheap, but (for me) a local lifetime warranty might make it worth it in the long run.
I bought this same radiator from Performance Radiator in December ‘22. From California I’ve made 2 trips to Ouray, Co. & one to Moab, & wheeled a lot around home @ 6k plus elevation. I’m very impressed with this radiator, Just returned from Ouray with the return Hwy temps approaching 100*. It did extremely well on the road as well as when wheeling.

Yes, it’s expensive but it gives great peace of mind.

John it's been almost a year since your post. How's this holding up?

Thanks for asking. Couldn’t ask for a better performance from a radiator on an old vehicle. Perfect fit and absolutely no performance issues. Going to Ouray again in August 2025. And in March 2025 we drove from California out to San Antonio area for the Texas Round Up. Total miles driven was 3,730, all with no issues.

I’ve had my 60 since 2003, this radiator has done well! Don’t know if you can find this radiator anymore, but if you can, snap it up!
