Hello,
I need help, I recently bought a 2000 LC and have been chipping away at repairs. I noticed that when the car is sitting it drips coolant and when starting it drips a lot fast. Although its not an alarming amount I still would like to fix it. Another werid thing that happens is when I havent started it in a couple of days the coolant will pressurize. Ive never seen this before and last time I took the cap off to check the coolant it overflowed. I havent gotten to pressure test yet as I dont have to the right attatchment to fit the tester. I didnt want to jump and buy a new radiator right away as they are expensive. I've also checked the hoses, there are no holes in them although there is a little bit of corrosion where it attaches to the water pump and the thermostat. I am going to re-clamp them soon to fix that. I believe the problem is within my radiator but I'm not sure and would like some opinions/ideas. Anything is helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Where can you see the leak coming from? Hose outlets? Seams on radiator? Water pump?

If this is the original radiator (Will say T.Rad on the pass side flat spot on top) it's time for a replacement. If it's aftermarket, it's still probably time for a replacement as they don't last long.

A cooling system failure at speed is the one thing that can take down these machines. Find where it's leaking and fix it.

FWIW at this age I'd recommend a full system replacement of hoses, tees, clamps, radiator, t-stat etc.

The "water inlet" over the thermostat is part number 16321-50020, about $60 and should be replaced if it's corroded.

Good luck and feel free to ask questions around here, we'll happily show you where your questions have already been answered 🤣

Its the original one. I will replace that. I havent been able to find the exact spot of the leak but it drips from the fan

Do you have the part numbers for the rest of the items? Ive been ordering parts from partsouq as they claim to be genuine. Is there a better place for chepaer oem parts?

You should see dried pink scale in the engine bay and when running and dripping, find something wet then work your way back and up toward the top of the engine till you find the source.

Pressurization: Check if your overflow line into the coolant expansion tank (clear plastic container mounted to radiator) is plugged. Take it out of the expansion tank, disconnect from the radiator and try to blow through it. Also check the nozzle that the line plugs into, push a nail or something through it to make sure it's not plugged.

Coolant expands, as it heats. So, if rad cap removed as outside temp (OAT) is climbing in the morning. It will come out the cap. It's why I like to check coolant, just before sun up.

Fan can not leak. No way for it to!

I start my hunt, by opening hood. Also I'll remove engine cover and very often skids.

Most radiator leak are in the top plastic, in front. Looking through grill they can be spotted. The ones on back side of plastic top, are hard to see. But, by looking at bottom of radiator, we often find signs. Either wet of pink crusty.

If not radiator or hoses connecting to it. I move on to engine side.

Most all leaks make to the ground. Follow from ground up.

If you just got it and it has an original radiator... I wouldn't drive it until you at least verify the condition of the heater Ts (plastic Ts on hoses coming out of the firewall behind the engine). The number one killer of the 2UZ. I'd plan on replacing them and the clamps - they are cheap.

Found the leak. It was one of the hoses and I'm replacing those. The Ts have been replaced they are fully metal, so I'm not worried about the condition of that.
