R151F Tranny with Split T-case Question (1 Viewer)

Please note that this set up gave a lot of trouble in the HZ76, usually in Africa and Aus where we tend to load and tow a lot. On the HZJ76 it was usually that intermediate shaft which at best would just wear the splines, at worst twist sideways and damage caseings and bearing lands. The 5th also battles with the loads, especially coasting while towing. The HZ100 do not have this problem as it does not have the split case or that intermediate shaft. Not sure if this combo was used with other engines. truth be told it is a delightfull gearing and easy changeing setup on the Hz76 with its 4.3 diffs, but they seldom make 250K without rebuild. We all look out for the H150's with their part time tx boxes, from wrecker 70 series trucks. On the wide front 76's this combo slips right in with no drive train mods and a wee bit of metal work for the new lever position. You wind up with peace of mind, a bullet proof gearbox, but heavy shifting and a crappy 5 th gear ratio but still worth it.
Lots on web info on the R151 split case problems.

In non split case applications it seem like a good strong box used alone or with other TX boxes. Hilux and Jeep ( Aisn box). Some vendors offer nice power mods , usually 1st and 5th gear thrust washers and selector forks. You can also improve you 5th ratio by fitting Dyna 5th gears.

Here is the stock R150f/split case from my 1991 LJ78: be aware that the R transmissions are quite a bit longer than the H series transmissions.

This is after considerable effort and expense to modify it with post-1995 internals, an HZJ79 transfer adapter and 0.69:1 Dyna 5th gear:

Umm, longer than an H55 and it's predesessors (4 speed) perhaps but not longer than an H150/151. With a part time TX case on the H150/151 , the output flanges of the front and rear shafts are in an almost identical position to the R151 with split case.
Could you please go over why a new caseing was necessary ?? I have my old HzJ76 R151 and split case which I want to rebuild before I sell it and I want all the latest bullet proof, go-faster goodies on hand before I go ahead. Mine is a 2007, so perhaps the caseing mod does not apply. Is there now a better stronger intermidiate shaft?

Mining an old thread but EUREKA we picked this up for a song purely so we could pirate the Rbox and tcase out of it. My son has an RJ70 that MAY undergo a 1KZ swap down the track.
