So as winter drags on I start dreaming again. I bough a wakeboat the summer after buying my 40 and now don't want to tackle this project on my own/as a learning experience. I want this to simiply be a driver for the time being and want to get my drivetrain sorted out.

I put only about 20 miles on it last summer, I blew the clutch slave cylinder in an emergency stop to keep from puddling a bmx'er who jumped out in front of me. I figured out that the acorn nut was too small/the clutch fork hole was worn and jobbered a washer in the there for the time being.

I've found a couple of 2f rebuild kits throught online seraches varying from 800-900$ up to 2100$. I've never had to have an engine done and would like to save as much $ as possible so I can keep the boat fueled up. Where would a guy start in diagnosing the extent of service required? My main issue is oil consumption and leaks. The leaking is pretty minimal as evidenced by staining on the ground. Oil consumption has decreased since I switched to 15-40 oil and using different additives. Advice is always appreciated, I had hoped to do most or all of this myself but hockey in the winter and wakeboarding/surfing all summer I don't think I'll find the time. I'd like to get it to the point where if the wife is driving it, I feel comfortable she'll get home.

I will call dan at 4WheelAuto Tomorrow but am afraid of what he's going to tell me.

Thanks

Lots to consider here!

How many kms are on the 2f? Do a compression test, doest it just need to have the carb adjusted and the valves. How does it run. The 2f is a very stout engine. Very rarely is a rebuild needed that ive found in all my 2f and f engines ive owned. Look for a low mile replacement they are out there. To have a shop do a full rebuild you will easily see north of 3k or more. There are also companies who sell rebuilt engines out the front door ready to roll.

Sounds like you got alot of hobbies. Lancruisers are like harleys they always require tinkering etc.

I don't mind tinkering but would like this one to be reliable enough for the wife to cruise around town with the top off if she wants. Thanks for the input.

In addition to a compression test, a cylinder leakdown test might yield some valuable information.

I'd suggest you start networking your way in with one of the AB clubs if you aren't comfortable diagnosing / fixing stuff on your own. If you go to the Clubhouse tab here on mud, there are clubs in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and Ft McMurray. Lots of good people to help hands on with the diagnosing and likely wrenching too.
