I've got the CBI Covert bumper installed onto the GX. I've got the CBI skid plates that I'm also trying to install, but I'm wondering how to go about attaching the power steering cooler mounts. The picture is a view from underneath and shows the mounts in question. I've attached a stock photo as well showing the CBI skid bolted up to the bottom of the CBI bumper. As far as I can tell, the mounts aren't being sandwiched between the skid and bumper. For those of you with the CBI bumper and skid, how did you secure the mounts?

The mounting tabs won't fit between the bumper and frame? The have to be mounted below, as you have shown?
Also, looking at the skid plate, it looks like the back of the cut-out for the mounting blots is open, that perhaps you may still be able to fit your power steering mount in the same location.

I don't think the lines are long enough for the brackets to be brought in through the back of the cut-out on the skid. The mounts have raised sides which prevent them from being neatly sandwiched between the bumper and the frame or between the bumper and the skid. I suppose the raised sides can be cut and then flattened so that they can be better sandwiched. I emailed CBI on what to do but haven't heard back.

CBI replied to say trim the mounts down to sit flush. I also noticed that I installed that center piece backwards and used the hex bolts instead of the button heads. It looks like I'll be pulling the sucker off to fix it. I really wish CBI would've provided some better instructions. Their youtube video skips a lot of steps. The bumper looks good though. I like how it retains a lot of the factory look.

I flattened mine out best I could with channel locks and then sandwiched them between the skid and bumper, which flattened them out the rest of the way once I torqued the bolts down… I recall I had to use longer bolts which luckily I had laying around from previous work on the Tacoma. I always save left over factory hardware like that. Saved my ass more than once.

Lack of instructions definitely slowed the install down for sure.

Thanks for comment. Yes, the stock bolts don't look long enough to pass through both the skid and bumper.

Did you have any problems with the bumper interfering with some of the piping? I read on Club Lexus that someone had that problem. I had the same issue. A cross member in the bumper was right up against a section of piping. I gently bent the piping away, slipped a piece of rubber hose over the area, and secured it with a hose clamp. Hopefully there won't be any problems.

I did not… Only minor fitment issue I had was with the warn 9.5 xps winch contacting the high pressure side ac line. it’s made of soft aluminum, so gently bending it out of the way was no big deal.

I agree. I bought sliders and a bumper and there were zero instructions. Four bags of bolts and I had no idea which went where. I watched their video and it took less than 5 minutes and skipped many steps. There is another video by TX GX? It is much better than the CBI version but it would have been nice to have some printed instructions to look at while in the garage.

I agree. Considering that these designs are done on CAD, probably SoildWorks, there's no excuse for not having a BOM, exploded views with insert lines, etc. for the assembly, at the very minimum.
Then if there was time, add some subassembly details with some notes. If these guys were truly engineers, it would have been a no-brainer. With CAD these days, one couldn't ask for it to be any easier.
As an engineer, myself, this is always done without thought as a matter of habit.

I had a chance to look at this again, and that’s the same ac line I had to slightly bend out of the way for the winch… they are soft and flexible, so you could try gently pushing it up some to gain some clearance like I did. Just don’t go too far, or it might break.

Even the supplied hardware was incomplete… too much of one thing, not enough of another, some not even used. Luckily I had enough extra bits laying around from other projects to make it all match and look good.

I’d give the bumper, sliders, and skids an A for fit, finish, and quality… instructions and hardware would be a D. They definitely need to improve there.
