Got my kit and am tinting it with a dark charcoal gray polyurethane base. When I went to my local paint store, they mixed the base with no binder. We checked the color on the bottomside of the lid and it looked fine.

When I got home, I looked at the can and it is a pint can that is barely 20% full.

I have done some research and it is evidently better to use a basecoat with no binder.

The directions, however, say to tint the liner by adding about 10% (by volume) additional basecoat. With what I have in my can, I don't know if I can add that much to one bottle of the liner.

I'm gonna call the Raptor folks tomorrow but was wondering if y'all had any experience with this.

I don't understand the question. Are you worried that you'll run out of tint or that there isn't enough room in the bottle? Just pour a little out into another bottle if there isn't enough room for the hardner and tint.

Yeah, i know, it is a little confusing.

I went back to the paint shop and they assured me that I had enough base coat to tint the liner properly.

Maybe it's just me but the UPOL site doesn't do a good job of walking you thorugh the process of using the tintable kit. Maybe I missed it but my local paint store had to tell me that you want to get a polyurathane basecoat with no binders included.

This will result in a small amount of highly concentrated paint that does not look like it will be enough to tint all 4 bottles of liner. The Raptor site says you can add "up to 10% more basecoat" but that would be a crapload of the paint I bought locally (with no binders).

I called the UPOL folks in Pennsylvania but got no reply. Ultimately, I am going to trust my local paint guys who have done this for other kits and say that what I have will be enough for the job.

Sorry to geek so hard, it just seems like something you want to do right the firs time!

You buy liner, you buy some paint, you poor some paint into the liner bottle, up to the inner line on the bottle, you pour hardner from liner kit into bottle till you get to the neck, shake, and shoot. This stuff is super easy...
