Alright guys, I just posted a thread here not too long ago about my 92 LC 3FE being SO gutless especially on uphill roads because of my new BFG 33X10.50 KM2s.. Now I am considering re-gearing my axles to 4:88 instead of going back to 31's... My problem is I have no Idea how to do this.. where do I get new gears? is this something I am gonna have to take my rig to the shop and have them do it, or it's easy enough that I can do it myself? I am not a professional mechanic, I have never worked on Tranny and axles before but I can work on my car to a degree. How easy / hard is this to do? Need some advise here.

Thanks again guys.

Pull the 3rds take them to a GOOD shop that deals with Toyota gearing in particular. Gear set up is something I wouldn't trust to anyone but someone (or some shop) with an excellent reputation, in particular, dealing with drop out 3rds.

As for the parts, I've had good experiences with East Coast Gear Supply. Excellent pricing as well. As others said, pull the thirds and have a reputable shop set up the gears.

4.88's are nice for those 33's. I have them and like it a lot. Take it to a shop and have them do it for you. The shop will order the parts for you. While you're at it, consider adding a locker.

Thanks guys.. I found a couple shops here around Portland that specialize Land Cruisers, gonna give them a call and ask for pricing :)

What's the ball park price on having that done?

Back from the dead.....what's the ball park cost for this? And yes, I'll x-post with the local folks but there aren't a lot of 3FE'ers I've run across over there yet.

thx!
