I am doing everything I can think of to try to find the Joshua Bailey on the title so that I can contact the previous owners to know more about its maintenance history. If anyone is able to find him it would be a HUGE help.
Anyone know if AAA would be able to find out previous owners from its registration?
Update, I spoke with AAA, I am at DMV now to inquire about past ownership and tell them about my filed complaint.

Josh Bailey can probably be contacted at the Rosecrans address on the title. He took possession on 8/2023 and also smogged it at that time. Smog is every two years and It was smogged again less than a year later, 5/2024 due to the sale/transfer or planning to transfer but it never happened.

Personally, I'd just call Fadi and tell him you know he lied about the odometer and you want an adjustment on the price. If he refuses, tell him you'll be reporting this and it will be followed by a civil suit.

Would you call Fadi even though Fadi’s description online does not match the sellers description? I am sure Fadi and the seller are connected. But he could say he does not know anything about the seller or that he was not the one who rolled it back.
It seems like Fadi could be the one who bought it from Joshua Bailey, but how it got to the guy who sold it to me is unclear.

Just follow and do whatever the DMV, the police, lawyer or the state tells you to do. A price adjustment doesn’t fix your issue of fraud on the odometer. You’re thinking about a lot of extraneous steps that might complicate the process.

No criminal you contact is going to accept the responsibility for being a criminal. Let the pros handle it. It’s a very clear case. A life lesson no doubt. Most people are nothing more than upright animals.

Hopefully, in the next few days, you have very clear direction on how to handle this. Fraud and digital communications crossing state lines will put this person in jail…imho.

Maybe this can help. Most lawyers will consult free for 15-30 mins to hear your case. Be fully prepared with all material facts and speak quickly:)

It even addresses conspiracy if all of the other people you’ve mentioned did all of this knowingly

This is so ****ed 😔 I spoke with a small claims attorney and he said he would discuss the case with his partners and then send me an email with their recommendations for the course of action. He said possibly finding a private investigator to look into him bc the identification information is at question.
Noted it is clear cut fraud and that I have a case, but they would need to find him in order to serve him.
Even if you win a case that doesn’t mean you collect a dime. The guy is probably flat broke with no real assets- essentially what they call “judgement proof”. You paid what Dave Ramsey calls a “stupid tax”- and don’t be offended we have all done it before.

the Dave Ramsey reference hits hard because one of the motivations in buying this car was to avoid a car payment. Which is one of the things Ramsey preaches. s***ty thing was I was looking other 100 series trucks but this one obviously stood out because of the “low” mileage. I got fooled and paid the stupid tax for jumping into it right away. The lesson stings. I really want to move forward so I’ve done everything I can to have a paper trail filed.
Next steps is to take it to get evaluated and hope there is not anything too major to fix. I am giving myself a $4000 dollar budget for maintenance for the truck. If it goes north of that I would have to sell and take the losses.
Luckily my cousin is available to help with most of the labor/ maintenance but parts will be the expense. For more hands on maintenance, I will have the dealer or the specialist take care of it.
I’d like to take caee of that sooner than later but most people are saying to see out the investigation first.

Here are photos of under the hood and under the truck.

Honestly that is as clean as you can get for 278K miles on her. I don't see any leaks, maybe a couple damp spots. This truck doesn't need anything from these pics, pop the timing belt cover off and check the belt and just drive it.

We haven’t noticed any leaks either.
Probably was not the best time to take the photos. It rained last night and is sprinkling a bit here in Southern California at the moment.

My Opinion: It looks pretty clean. Certainly much cleaner than my 01 with 260k. If the driveline clunk is the only issue you've encountered, I would deal with that: likely diff bushings and front axles/hub flanges, possibly driveline. Then replace all fluids with new and drive it. Certainly file a report with the DMV and police, but I personally wouldn't waste time with a lawyer or PI. You can register the vehicle and check the "odometer reading does not represent actual mileage" box and be on your way. Replace parts and address issues as needed. Everything I've encountered on mine has given warning signs that it needs to be addressed; never been stranded or had a catastrophic failure.

since you are going to have mileage discrepancy on the title anyways, put the approximate mileage on there for consistency.
Looks really clean regardless.

Isn't it just sellers that have to state the mileage? And I believe there is a time limit on that requirement, at least for federal. As usual California is probably different.

Truck looks pretty clean! Shame about the fraud stuff. I will just make comments on mechanical bits.

My thoughts based on pics:
  • Brake master reservoir over-filled. Follow procedure to set level correctly.
  • Power Steering reservoir low. Replace fluid and set level correctly.
  • Rear driveshaft slip yoke looks dry-ish. Lubing that along with the front driveshaft slip-yoke could help with clunk.
  • Aftermarket radiator. Monitor coolant temps using an OBD reader and occasionally check for crusty red/pink bits around the radiator shroud as that's where a lot of the aftermarkets like to fail.
  • Bushings look like their 26x,xxx age. Replace as needed.

That is a fine example- like other said, get a few maintenance things done and you are good. I’d check the torque on the spark plugs as well

Looks like a solid clean truck. Change the fluids and motor on! Bushings will need refreshing as time/budget allows.

Nitpicking stuff:

1. Radiator shroud tab broken (just make sure it's on there secure and the shroud isn't loose). Not uncommon for the Driverside tab to be broken.
2. Missing isolator brackets that support the AC lines and alternator wire loom running across fan shroud.
3. Vin appears present on PS fender but not on DS.

I have reached out to a PI as my last shot it the dark. It seems as though I have already exhausted anything I could without paying for a background check on the Fadi guy who serviced it last. The PI mentioned that they really wouldnt have any more information besides the background. I have made contact with the DMV investigator who is on my case and she has contacted the other guys investigator because it happened to him by the same seller. Once the DMV investigator takes a look at the title then I will be clear to start the registering/ insuring/ inspection process.

I thought this rig looked familiar! Saw this one up on CL back when I was hunting down a new hundy late last year. Not sure if it helps your case at all but was still able to dig up the CL ad from my browser cache. Sorry bout the headache but still seems like a solid grab!

That is a pretty nice cruiser. I would say you probably over paid by 4 to 5k? Lawyers will eat that much for breakfast. File your complaints and chalk this up to a lesson learned.

Don’t let the inspection rake you over the coals either. They can write up 4 to 5k easy in unnecessary repairs. I think the only thing to fear is low compression. Everything else is not that bad. I think the 100 Series LC is one of the most DIY friendly vehicles. Your family will be just fine in that vehicle. Good luck and don’t let this consume you! Take care!

Holy crap! This is huge. The DMV investigator asked if I had a screen shot of the post and this is exactly the same details of what was written on the add that I found. The mileage is incorrect but only by 1k so hopefully that doesn’t affect the investigation.
