I was just reminded of this issue a few days ago -painfully- when I had to hold a big round a weird way to halve it, had to go from the end, did not pay attention to that, persevered (bad idea) and promptly dulled my chain. It was really bogging down too. So I thought it might help somebody else avoid this ordeal. Also wanted to put in a plug for this guy. I've been following him for a while and watched numerous videos of his when I was learning (still am) about tree work. He is very good and I learned a lot from him. I just ran across this new vid of his on the issue, a good illustration on what to do and not to do. I would not say that the difference in cutting time was huge, but the difference in cuttings was striking. And if he says his chain was getting dull, I believe him, I saw it myself before.
