Yeah, I had a long break from Sparkle, but I'll be back at it once I get that Isuzu Trooper back on the road. It's been a rough summer, but I'm ready to go back at it hard in the next couple of months.

How's crinkle doing? Looks like you got the body looking smooth if that's it in your avatar.

Yeah, it's a goner. Time is just not on my side, nor is a place to work on it within the next 6+ months. The old man is selling the business, and I'm currently garageless. My car/truck hobby will be on hold for a year or so.

:crybaby:

Guess what guys???....Sparkle is back in business. Please read the thread I started in the WANTED section. PLEASE let me know if you know of anyone selling a decent tub or any sheetmetal.

I didn't get much action here other than some smaller parts, but did ok on a few things on ebay and then I got a call from a local guy who had a bunch of 1st gen mini truck parts he'd trade for my project. Oh yeah, I bought an '81 Toyota 4x4 in January thinking I would turn it into a mild wheeler which would replace my need for a cruiser, but that hasn't happened.

Anyway, the guy with the mini parts and I must have played phone tag for well over a month and I finally lost interest in pursuing the deal and decided to put it back on CL again. The second guy who originally called me the first time it was on CL called right away after I relisted it and he came to look at what I had and we struck a deal. This is where you may start shedding a tear...............

The guy owned a resale business in Philly specializing in vintage industrial items and such as well as doing custom furniture restorations of the same type. I thought it was going to be a no brainer and this would be an easy 1,2,3 and I'm on my way to tearing down the Toyota mini for a flatbed, Lincoln lockers, RUF's/63's etc. Why wouldn't it, he's a legit "businessman". What a joke.

The dude comes to the shop and hands me half the money for the deal and convinces me to help him load all the parts I have scattered around the shop into his F250 and claims he will be back in a few days to get the '72 I did the metal work on as well as a '73 donor truck with a good motor as well. Basically, in my mind, the meat and potatoes of the sale. Why wouldn't he come back to get them? Well, he didn't come back so my guess is either he only wanted the parts I had or couldn't find room for the rigs and didn't have the heart to tell me. Either way I'm stuck in the cold holding my dork.

Right now I'm left with two carcasses which are both missing a ton of parts to even make one rig. Even though the entire situation sucks it fueled my fire in getting this going again. I am going to sell the mini in hopes of finding a donor rig or tub to get me ahead of the game in getting this back together quicker.

I don't need a title, motor or good frame, but it must have a decent tub. I also need every other piece of sheetmetal, but condition can vary. Let me know if you can help a cruiser brother out. I'm gonna go to go and cry myself to sleep now.

Nice! Pls Crank up that goPro and fill the youtube vault with more quality vids! Glad to hear you couldn't shake the addiction. There was a void while you were on the sidelines.

Too bad we'll never get to see those 2 carcasses come to life. Was inspiring to see what you were able to do with such little metal!

Welcome back! Let the sparkle begin!

Thanks!! Vids should start after Memorial Day. I'm gonna make a cart to put the body on while I break down the axles and frame and get them ready for the media blaster.

I am on the fence about the tub. I talked to a guy in New Jersey who claims to have a "useable" tub he would sell still attached to the frame with complete drivetrain for $800. From the pics the back end appears rot free, but I'm waiting on pics of the main beam between the front floor and intermediate floor. If that's bad I don't think I'm gonna grab it. It's just too much work to cut all that out, repair it and line it back on the frame again.

Either way the vids will be coming back soon.

I saw this at walmart and had to take a picture.

I scored a tub!! It just got dropped off at Fastenal yesterday. I paid $500 for the tub and $200 to get it crated along with the $350 Fastenal charged to ship which is a steal IMO considering it's coming from Auburn, CA to Middletown, DE. That's almost as far as you can get from west to east. This will also save me a couple hundred hours in work since it's 98% rust free. Even though it will need me to put new 1/4's and rockers on I am still WAY ahead of the game.

My dilemma is in regards to the older ('68) cowl/dash vs. my ('72)cowl/dash. Should I cut the '68 tub at the front floor and section it onto the '72 cowl? I ask because of the differences in the cowls since I'm planning on running power disc brakes. I know I can buy the brake booster adapter from Mark to get the new tub to work, but I'd also get the stock look keeping my OEM dash and VIN plate keeping the original one. I like the look of the older dash in regards to the ridges in the center section, but I am swaying towards using the '72 dash for timing purposes. Am I wrong???

Here's a few pics of the tub. The guy I got it from was cool as hell, and did all the crating and drop off pro bono. Thanks Jeff!!
