Small update time. Not much has been happening since mid-November when I finished up the cage and tied it into the frame, and then spending money. The end of the year brought me to picking up the propane kit from Cary during his year-end sale, the passenger seat and harness, shock mounts for the rear end, d-ring tabs and a donor Weber carb for the propane setup.

I started on the winch mount a few weeks ago but it seems I always expect too much out of cordless drills in 20* weather, plus my fingers lost feeling so I called it a day. I broke down last week and finally picked up a 35-60k btu propane torpedo heater, so hopefully that will make it tolerable in the garage for the rest of the winter. Lots of work to do between now and July.

I did pick up this beauty yesterday though...

SRW 14b, 4.11 gears and open carrier. I've got my current hybrid for sale so if I can off-load that in a reasonable amount of time, I will be able to afford to build up the 14b for this summer. Otherwise it will be a as-money-and-time-allows build up. Plans include a shave, disc brakes, Detroit/Grizzly locker... or maybe a spool I dunno, truss and link/coil brackets.

Another weekend of 20 degrees and I was able to get more done.

Mock up. It's a tight fit but it works.

Ready to be stuck on

I'll finish things up tonight, and then figure out what's next.

Beefcake winch mount :grinpimp:

Got room to work on the steering box once that mount is welded in place?

It's tight, but there's about 1.5" between the steering box and winch plate. So just enough clearance to drop the box, and not have the winch any more off-center of the frame than necessary.

Started the swing-out tire carrier a week or so ago and nearly finished it up last night along with the rear bumper, until I ran out of welding wire while working on the latch. And a "blizzard" slowed me down the middle of last week. Fxxx snow.

I wanted the stop block/locking tab for the carrier to be flush against the inner face of the bumper so I needed to offset the whole thing by ½”. Being able to draw this up ahead of time in CAD was huge.

Loaded the bearings into the spindle and dropped everything together.

And it holds ~150-160lbs without issue. Success I suppose. I previously grossly underestimated the weight of the wheel/tire… fawker is heavy. 2" lift springs for the rear are now a definite need, as just the tire dropped the ass end by ½”.

I did make a pretty good error in the placement of the spindle, in that I can’t fit a hinged tailgate anymore. My wife assumed we weren’t going to have one anyways, so that's sort of a win.

This past Friday I dropped off the 14b shafts and 6 lug rotors at a buddy’s shop to be machined, and they should be done by the end of this week. Also delivered last week was the 14b truss and pinion guard from TMR Customs. Beefy.

Apparently when I say I'm going to hold off on building something until I have the money, is complete crap... all of which my wife somehow supported. After I picked up the machined 14b shafts a few weeks back I ordered a rebuild kit and spool, soon followed by coil buckets, brakes and diff cover. With the depth increase (axle centerline --> driveshaft mounting surface) of the Toy versus 14b, the new coil mounts are offset 1.5" from the axle centerline so the wheelbase will be increased to ~108.5" to help with the driveshaft angle.

The axle was torn down over the weekend, all of which came apart without much drama despite the rust.

Since I'm only running 37's (for now) and still have a pile of stuff to buy, I'm using a 13 bolt cover instead of a traditional shave on the housing. The cover will save me about 1"-1.25" off the underside.

In the continuation of money hemorrhaging, I picked up some front RCV's, hub gears and propane tank #1. Once I get the 14b reassembled, I'll need to get started on sliders and a cooler rack to sit above the propane tanks. July is coming quick.
