Do these trucks have a lockable transfer case? Or just high/low? I loved having diff lock on my tcase.

Matt,

They're identical to the LT230 box - instead of a mechanical CDL, we have an electrical motor that moves a doohickey thingiemabobber. :hillbilly:

Thanks Ali, hopefully they don't leak like the Rover tcase! :)

I called on the Lexus, and the girl who answered was completely rude from the get go. She didn't even want to answer any of my questions so I just said that I was no longer interested and hung up.

While I am obviously partial the the LX and the color of this one as well, rude sellers you should just walk away from. Seems a bit high priced considering it doesn't have much. No lockers, etc. Also, doesn't look like there is a alarm remote included either. I don't know what the deal is with dealers/sellers that they don't include the remotes. Really, what the hell do they need to keep the remote for? Why would a previous owner want to even keep the remote? They are getting rid of the car and would have no interested in anymore. When I was looking at 80s, I ran into this a lot. Of course the dealer/seller said, Oh I can get you one of those no problem and that they didn't normally come with a remote. I seriously rolled my eyes at that.

Back the Indiana LX, looking at the pictures with the hood open, is the horn bracket all rusty and everything else looks nice and black? The valve cover looks a bit crusty too. I would have wanted to see some undercarriage shots, but due to the rudeness from the seller, its a moot point now.

Any news/new pictures on the lifted up/mod'd LX yet?

Jon

I called hoping to have some undercarriage shots emailed to me, but like you said, no point now.

The other lexus owner hasn't responded or sent me anything, oh well. He sounded like he wasn't pressed to sell or anything, so we'll see if he calls. I doubt he will though.

It seems that the LX is cheaper, and more available. If that's the case then I have no problem driving the SAME truck with different logos and a few dohickies (sound like Ali :D) here and there.

I've always loved that dark green color on Rovers, but not sure if its the best on a trail rig (like Dan said).

I don't know why the LX is usually cheaper, but they seem to be. Maybe people just dont realize they are essentially identical to the LC. I would say that don't get your heart set on any one particular vehicle. If it is meant to be yours, it shall be :D.

I love my green but, I have this odd and maybe crazy desire to have a camouflage truck. I am thinking of the new digital desert camo or the older chocolate chip cookie dough/brownie version. I think either one would look kinda neat on a LX. Looking at the different wraps that are out there right now. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas for something more or less local to Reno or even the Bay Area as to getting that done?

Jon

A point in favor of the LX per Jack: Insurance rates are less on the LX than the LC. Jack stated it may have something to do with the type of key LXs use: Apparently its very difficult to copy compared to the LC.

So are the LC's more popular because of the name? Maybe the LX is less popular because most don't know its the same vehicle.

That might be the case. Land Cruiser...LX450...big differnce there lol. Other than cruiserheads that are in the know...Not sure the average person would put 2+2 together and figure that out. I know that all my body panels, windows, wheels, etc say Toyota on it. I order 99% of my parts from CDan, Toyota parts man extraordinaire :meh: Keys are definitely different. I have 3 keys luckily. Guess the PO had an extra one made. I am not complaining at all.

Jon

Oh yeah, the general rule is that if you own a LX, you HAVE to wear a pink panty.

Haha, I've seen that a few times searching around on here.

Ill take the logos off and be the unknown 80/450!

Hmm, I am not sure YOU have to wear the pink panty/thong, Lord knows I am not going to. You can always get the "Lexus Trail Team" Pink Thong sticker and put it on the side window and that should suffice :grinpimp:. I got one of those and that gets a grin whenever someone sees that.

what do you guys think? milage is a bit more than what ive been focusing on, but price is only $7500. That would leave me some PM money.... honest opinions! I want to use YOUR knowledge to MY advantage. :D

Matt, this one caught my eye...the guy is supposed to take photos of the undercarriage/chassis this weekend; You should e-mail him for the same. I wonder if Seattle rigs might have rust issues (or not)...however he told me there "isn't any rust anywhere on this rig". And he said the interior is near perfect although the DS seat must be the "near" he was referring to ;).

I'm out of town for a couple days... I can't remember or not if I ran a CarFax on it or not; however I can let you know when I get back. Go for it if you like it!

FYI: I have a buddy looking and driving the VA '96 tomorrow...just worked out he was going to visit IPOR tomorrow!

Dan

Well, you have driven mine at 182k, so you know what they are like at higher mileage, and I can say that mine has been offroaded quite a bit. I have seen them with 300+k miles and still going, so I don't think the mileage is too high. Clean rig, good price.

Im sure ive seen the other truck youre talking about too, Dan. I keep looking over the same trucks on here and craigslist wondering what vehicles are the ones to look in to. I'm cashing the check for my Rover tomorrow morning, so I started a Wanted thread in the classifieds. Lets see where that gets me...

Jack, I think your truck ran fantastic when I test drove it, so I'll keep the milage in mind when I keep looking.

1997 Lexus LX450 / Landcruiser

I keep wondering if I should have looked into this one more... I told him 9800 is a bit too high for me. I have more pics of it too, the paint is fading pretty bad on the roof. Other than that, it looks like a nice truck.

I agree that 9800 is too high, but if you could get him down to the 9k range, then I think it is a better buy. Lower mileage, lift, tires, bumper and winch (which you could sell). You would be able to drive that one as is for a while before you would "have" to do anything. That might be worth the $1500 premium over the other one. As long as you are ok with the darker color.

Rear axle thing?

I dodge a bullet this morning.... I was about to go check out a LX on tuesday with 108K. The seller said that he was the 2nd owner and the car was in great shape. We ran a carfax report and its had 5 owners, and one serious accident. He bought it at auction....

Thank you carfax!

Nice going, finally carfax helped out for a change. However, you *should* still go check it out and familiarize yourself with the model. The more you drive, the better feel you'll develop on what to look/listen/feel for.
