Was that your yello disco on jackstands and no axles this Saturday AM in Golden Valley?

If so, you're on the other side of Estates from me.

FWIW, I thought it looked nice. Always wanted a Defender90, but they sure didn't have the staying power I thought they would have.

Nice looking 40th. Has the same climate control that the LX has. Just hard to for to imagine buying something without seeing it up close & personal first. But, I guess you have to take that leap of faith and hope that it all ends up ok. Almost makes me wish I had got a 40th instead of my LX, I do so love that color and the 2 tone seats.

I think its a nice truck, but I bet it has rust issues since its down there in a humid climate. I think 10k wouldn't leave me much for maintenance issues and what not either...

Paul, My mom said she saw some guy drive by sticking his head out the window staring at my truck. That must have been you! Haha

Matt,
Although a very arid climate is best a humid climate isn't terrible...assuming no salt on the road winters or winters at all ;). Its the salt that really attacks these things.

FWIW the IPOR guy is supposed to e-mail under carriage photos. But after 2-weeks I'm not holding my breath . Its as if they really don't want to sell their rigs...

I talked to a gentlemen tonight on the phone about his LX450. It has 154K, with a 3" lift and lockers. He said it has a few small "dings and dents" but nothing major. He's suppose to send me more photos tomorrow but all he had tonigh was this one.... He said the axle has some sureface rust, but nothing a wire wheel won't take off. He wants $8500 and said he's willing to take it to the local dealership for a look over.

Surface rust on the axle housing is NOTHING to worry about.
Looks like its got some good meats on it too.

Did the sale go through on yours?

I should have the money for my truck at the end of this week. I told the owner of the lexus that and he said he hasn't had much interest anyway.

He's suppose to send me pictures of the rig today, so we'll see how bad the "ding and dents" are, and how much rust it really has underneath.

From the picture & description, doesn't sound too terribly bad. Already has lockers, small lift, etc. Hopefully you can get some additional pictures soon. Is it local or somewhat local?

Jon

The only thing I see a little odd from that picture is that when he or whomever did the brakes, they left the "dust shield" off upon reassembly. Not sure why. Also, not sure if they put a spacer in it's place or not, but they should have.

Jack

Same on the other side too. I called the local toyota dealership up there this morning. THey said there are several tech's who have worked on these trucks many times in the past so they will have no problem looking over it. He said it would range from 75 to 125 depending on how far they looked into it, and what I want checked out.

He said he's going to send me more pictures today.

Jack,

I leave my dust shields off too and unlike the minis, you don't need a spacer. The dust shield is about 20 gauge thickness and the spacer (for the minis) is something like 1/8". The dust shield on a Mini is considerably thicker than the 80s for some reason.

Not a bad looking truck. I only have one comment...

$30.00 NEW - Aluminum Dual Air Intake Fuel Saver Turbo Fan
Fuel saver...C'mon, really? It can't really work can it?

Seems to have all the toys though. Although, with your talent for making things, I would think you could do most of that yourself. I know I have most of the bolt on goodies that one could want for an 80 series. I wish I had the talent to make some stuff like that or you have made.

Jon

Thanks for the compliments, jon!

I do plan on building my own bumpers either way. If I was to purchase a truck with an ARB or TJM, etc, I would sell it to make a little extra cash and build exactly what I want.

I would like to find a truck with lockers, that way I could just swap out the R&P to run larger tires. I'm not sure on the cost, but new gears along with ARB's sounds like a lot of $$$$ (just like it was on the Rover).and I actually was more happy with my e-locker rear than the ARB front.

I really like the color of that truck though. I know paint isn't everything, but after having a bright yellow bus for so long, I'm going to be a little picky!:D

Good to know. Then I guess it's not a big deal.

He has been trying to sell that thing forever, and it doesn't look like he is willing to lower the price. That truck has only been in TX for maybe a year, before that it was a northeast truck. Some nice work, but I'm with you guys, why would you admit that you put a "turbo" air deflector thingy on there, they are crap and don't work.

Yeah I thought that was pretty funny too. I like how he adds in all the stupid little things to his list of mods. Maybe if I put "Genuine Land Rover floor mats" in my ad I could have sold it for 12K!

Here's a SUPER clean Lexus....

Do these trucks have a lockable transfer case? Or just high/low? I loved having diff lock on my tcase.

Have them send you photos of underneath...assuming that it is clean (never know...ChiTown uses salt)...that might be your dealio!

Transfer case: High or Low range. Center Differential Lock ("CDL"): Viscous coupled; either locked or unlocked (limited slip type performance when unlocked).

So all these trucks have the same T-case like that?

I'm just not sure if I should wait to find one with lockers, or if I should just stick with stock and wait (a few years) until I can afford ARB's with 4.88's. I built up my Rover when I was living for free (aka mom and dads house!) But not the case anymore...

Ill call in on it, why not...
