I had an insane idea to trade up to a 2021 since it would be cool to say I had one of the last ones sold in the US.

Well, I talked to my local dealer and was quoted $3000 off MSRP for a non-HE. They said the last 3 sold at MSRP but since I was a long-time customer they would give me a deal. This is from a Houston dealership.

(I got $8k off MSRP when I bought my 2019)

They offered $69k for my 2019 with 15k miles.

Needless to say... not gonna happen! It was a dumb idea anyway.

Just wanted to share with the group that dealers are not dealing around here since the announcement. Oh... and they aren't coming off sticker at all for HEs.

It's a challenging time for dealers. They are low on inventory which is driving up used car values. My local lexus dealer is buying 1 year old Toyota's at auction just so they have something to sell.

It was inevitable as inventory dries. Car dealers are greedy and in their minds the LC's are in short supply and therefore prices must be held at sticker or raised higher. There is little to no change in the demand for them and I'd think if they were to run it early this year Toyota might rally for another 1000 or so if they know they can sell them.

Reports are that production/deliveries to USA was going to increase in Dec '20 and Jan/Feb '21. My prediction is that they will taper and likely cease in Late Spring/Early Summer. That said, I was able to get a great deal on my white '21 HE w/ 3rd row.

This is the biggest lie of them all. Dealerships don't give anyone deals no matter how large or small they are. Long-term or short-term customer means nothing to them. What they do is squeeze every last nickel out of you under the guise of a deal. If you trade a vehicle in you get screwed on the trade-in or the new one or both.

Last allocations are 2/1 according to our resident salesman with those being delivered in April/May. I suspect very few to still be on dealer lots by the fall. I paid invoice for my base model right before year end and I got $70K trade for my 2019 LX570, I consider that a damn good deal in the current climate and shortage of inventory. HE's weren't even on my radar as I wasn't the least bit interested, but I suspect there to be very little room on them if any at all.

I agree. Edmunds says trade value for my 2019 is between $70 and $74k. Given the discontinuation, i'd bet someone would be willing to pay top dollar for my mint condition 2019 on the used car lot. The $3k they were coming off the 2021 was coming out of the trade they were offering $69k for. At least that's my feeling.

Dont worry I had the same crazy idea. Now I have an even crazier idea.

Instead of trading in and only ending up with one 200 series, how about buying another 200 series.

On the hunt for a 2013-15 LC now since I already have a 2018.

Bingo. When I traded in my 2020 Taco Sport (MT) for my LC, I got slightly over MSRP for it. Effectively got paid to drive a truck for a year.

Everything is bonkers

I think stocking up on LCs is a pretty darn good idea at this point. If I had the cash and a warehouse, I would load up. Probably a much better return on investment than the stock market!

I think everything will go up once Covid hype and everyone gets back to work and economy gets straight out , Everything seems to be inching up in price , usually the best time of the year to buy new Land cruiser is end of January thru March every one is usually paying off holiday bills and there are good deals .
I bought my left over 2019 in February just when the whole Covid was just starting , I paid 78k for a Base which was a great deal , the dealers could not give the Heritage models away , Being in the PA / NJ/NY area everyone wants the 3rd row , Land cruiser is a acquired taste , people figure there getting a better deal on a Suburban or Navigator with more room and US dealers give 8k off .
I also bought a used 2015 Tacoma 4x4 4cyl with 14k on it for 20k and I now have dealers that have offered me 23k for trade value . It s a loaded 4cyl in mint condition .
Dealer offered me what I paid for my 2019 last year 78k if I was interested in a 2021 ... I’m not only upgrade I see is Apple CarPlay . Not worth trading my 2019 and having to give them another 10K + for a 2021

The dealer near me has a 2016 200 series for 30k. Which seems to be about right price wise.
A 2016 for $30k? How many miles? That sounds like a steal. I just bought a 2016 in November from a dealer, for quite a lot more (yet still below book value).

184k miles. It's in Denver. I just looked at it yesterday. Seemed like a fair price. They want 31k to be exact.

There is no Carplay on the 2021.

Ahh, that makes more sense. Mine was around 60k miles when I got it.

Picked up a ‘21 base this week for $5200 off MSRP. May have been able to save another $1-2k, but this one was 2mi from the house and all the dealers were leveraged the recent news.

I'd say that is a heck of a deal you got. I was just quoted MSRP by a dealer in Austin, TX and they low-balled my trade.
