Check the inner frame rails very carefully for rust, especially in the back near exhaust. Check out the exhaust system-stock exhaust snakes around to finally exit out the left in the rear. If the gears are stock, that's not ideal for those 33" tires. If it's really clean, I guess it's worth around 10K since they're such a rare item. If you've got the money, why not?

Little high 8k more realistic price.
Five spd or auto, when you say mannual lockers do you mean cable lockers or are you referring to the hubs.
Is it 3B or 13bt meaning turbo.
Mileage getting on the high side but she should still have another 200k in her if she has been well maintained.
Check to see if the axle angle was corrected for the lift depending on how high of a lift the angle needs to be corrected or something will break when you are in the bush having fun.
Not sure how much of the electrical system is 24v you should have two batteries, starting system and charging I believe are 24v unless Toyota changed that year to 12v,if it is like the BJ42 it is 24v throughout except the headlights.

3.5L??? did toyota ever did a 3.5L diesel?

The truck was identified as an '85 and Canadian spec BJ70s would have a 12 volt system. The 24 volt system was introduced with the '86s, so this should not be an issue unless the truck has been heavily modified.

The truck looks nice and maybe it has received great care. Check her out. Good luck.

I just bought one for $800 with a lot less mileage... but it has some pretty significant rust.

If you're not afraid of RHD, then an HZJ73 is a lot more truck for not that much more money.

get a compression done
get a coolant pressure test done
get an independent inspection done at a shop you trust
do a CLOSE visual UNDER the vehicle.

3B, H55F, split case, 3.7 gears... good combo if you plan on turboing

the truck is worth what you are willing to pay. i know a guy that has a 85 BJ70 for sale for $2K if anyone is interested.

to me that truck is worth $6K since i am a cheap bugger.

Thanks for all the responses guys...thing I enjoy about this site is people's willingness to provide info....plan to take a look this weekend.
