If you live in Canada I suggest converting to the aisin manual hubs, I sent G and S a set of spacers so they could make up some conversion sets - I am not sure if they have done it yet.
To change to manual you need a set of aisin hubs, gaskets, a metal spacer that goes between the hub assembly and the manual hub. You also need to drill and tap 2 holes - install 2 studs with acorns and nuts. Not a difficult install. The main thiing to remember is to use a hardened steel pin to keep the studs from sheering off.

how much for the old hubs?
Thanks lshobie; between a broken hand, committee work at work not stopping, overseeing details at the shop and a bsmt renovation going on I've not got to the spacers yet. We did supply the parts for one fellow who contracted Rob Milson of LCI to switch his spindle/hub/rotor over to HD LandCruiser ala the link above. We have rendered a number of front axles to make kits for this conversion...while going to look at the spacer too sometime soon. Shoot Sheldon a note for pricing info@gscruiserparts.com

Easy Peasy!
Go and get a set of front knuckle housing and spindles off a 60 series. Take off your Prado knuckle housings and spindles and replace with newly aquired 60 series housing and spindles.
There you go.
There are other models that work too just make sure the front axle is from the 1980s.

I have a PZJ 77 that Rob converted for me via G&S.
It works very well and was straight forward to do.
I don't know what Sheldon has for parts currently and if you have someone
that you want to use for your labour, but I'm sure glad I did mine because now they work when I want them to. The electric are not reliable and when you see how they are put together you'll know why.
I would recomend the conversion for piece of mind.

hummm, 30,000km of on road off road use on 3 trucks with no issues..
maybe some are s*** but i am curious to whether they come from Japan with issues or develope here. anyone that has wheeled with me knows i do not baby my units..
change them when needed or change them now and send me your old hubs. i will give you $50 a pair for them (better than chucking them out)

Hey Crushers, here's the deal. I would kind of like to keep the electric hubs, for my wifes sake. She has an office job, dresses well, and we have a terrible driveway, need 4WD if any snow at all. So if you get any takers for $50.00 a hub< i would be happy to give you $100 bucks for a working one. We do love that Prado!!!!!

no problem...i just figure if people are going to throw them out i might as well have a few sets here for my trucks, i like the electric hubs (as usal i go against the norm...)

Just wondering if there's merit in sending your end caps and the electric motors to me, i could do the required work and send them back.
All you would need to do is remove the brush box.
My own Prado, Ive made them still electric, with manual override, just incase they do play up when out on the trail.
Most guys just wan't to get rid of there electric hubs, my converstion lets you keep your arriginal Asian Hubs
