I am new to the 1FZFE and had a few questions about it. Just to keep things Toyota, I put a 1FZFE in my FJ40 to race in our local mud bog races. Rules state that my motor class (4 and 6 cylinders) must be naturally aspirated, so my question is, what kind of power upgrades are available for this motor with out turbos or superchargers. I should also clarify also, this is a 94' 1FZFE, pre-OBD-II I believe... although there is a 'diagnostic' port attached to the motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nitrous? :D

Don't think there are any 'chips' available to up the power, just keep it well serviced and maybe polish the head and intake. Bigger exhaust too?

Jet Performance supposedly makes a tuner, i have absolutely no experience with it just remember seeing it online

I would think the best thing to do would be find a 95 or later and get the land tank MAF, from what I hear it gives you a great seat of your pants kick.

Uni chip makes a pretty good chip for the 1fze also but i'm not sure if it is for a 94.

Exhaust, port and polish head? large air intake??

Not too many options for NA upgrades on those engines.

Aside from things already mentioned. You can shave the head a little to up compression some. You can also advance the timing a little. If you want cams or anything of that sort, it would have to be custom. You might be able to find a piston to up compression a little too. When it comes to aftermarket performance, all of the performance support went to the 2jz.

thanks for the info so far! Its a strong motor from the factory, so I am pretty excited to try it out.

I don't know anything about them, but a company out of New Zealand has started to make camshafts.

1FZ-FE

I'm not sure how well the factory 93/94 computer would deal with much of a change though.

What year is it? I might be able to help with an aftermarket ecu.

I assume you already, 1. raised the compression, 2. provided a free flowing exhaust and intake, ditched the cats (rules allowing) 3. upgraded cam and valve train is a must. Controlling the computer is a must if you want increased power.

don't bother with a UNI Chip.

Go complete stand alone for competition use. If it is truly PRE-OBD II, then you don't need a piggy back. Just go for the complete stand alone.

The truck is having a long tube header built for it right now, and I was planning on leaving the cats in because of the owygen sensors, how do I get around this?

O2 sims is what we used to use on our cars for the track. I think going to a stand alone system is also a good idea.

Hunter, Are you running the stock gears in that beast? Are you keeping the same tires, or are you going bigger? Just wondering if a gear swap would suffice in your case, as you are only using 1st and 2nd gear. In any case, I'm sure it will be wayyyy peppier than the ol' F in there now. Let me know if I can help.

If it is pre OBD1, you can remove the cats, as the O2 Sensors are pre cat.

I hope the embedding works. This is a vid about an FZJ100 being tuned in South Africa.
Damn it didn't work. Ok. Go to youtube and search for SAC engine mod posted by 4xforum. There some really good info on it. Unfortunately it doesn't have a link to the conclusion.

This what you are looking for:

YouTube - SAC engine mod

Very nice find.....and some really simple (though probably costly) modifications.

Notice also the different intake manifold (what we didn't get in the NA market). This is probably a direct ignition 1FZ without wires.

Thanks Beno, that's it. They probably ended the video cuz they want you to buy the dvds.
