Hi all,
I have an OEM power steering system that came with a truckload of FJ40 parts I bought from a guy who gave up on his FJ40 resto project. I was told it was from a 1978 FJ40 but I thought PS was only available on 1979-newer FJ models. I will add some pics here to help with the identification. I think I would like to sell this after we can identify it. Thanks for any help!

Looks pretty identical to the OEM power steering box that I have on my '80. Only thing that's missing is the mounting pedestal.

Thanks for the input! I am not sure if there is any way to identify the different years as they may all be nearly identical.

But the Heat Shield & Heat Shield brackets Are !

A late '78 would be titled as a '79, which might be the source of the seller's confusion. For instance, a 12/78 truck is typically titled as a '79, but the door plate shows the 12/78 mfg. date. Rare/desirable parts you have there.
