Has anyone experienced power steering fluid leaks where the hoses attach to the pump? I have a leak that is making a mess near the connections however it has not leaked enough to drop the fluid level in the reservoir. Also, what is the best thing to clean power steering fluid with? I need to degrease the entire area and see what is leaking.

Thanks,

These just developed on our 2000 LX with ~135K miles.

Digging up an old thread...

I'm experiencing the exact same problem as the OP. What did you find to be the problem/what was the fix?

Has anyone else had to deal with this?

Thanks.

I just wiped it down with water and a little bit of soap, I put some regular cheap hose clamps on the lines and haven't had a drop in a year. My entire pump/lines were just covered in muck and build up.

Same here. Hose clamps and a clean up. Ten months later no problems at all and the replacement hoses I ordered are sitting on a shelf in the garage uninstalled.

Had the same issue... Replaced clamps got better but i think the rubber is just getting old 2000 w 180k...ive always kept the fluid fresh... Gonna pull off lines and hoses and have them rebuilt here in a bit...

Im experiencing this issue and will try the new clamps and a clean up.

If I need to replace the hoses is it as simple as draining, replacing the hoses and refilling with ATF then letting the engine run while turning the wheel back and forth with the cap off of the reservoir to bleed the system?

I am having the same issue; leaking at hose input/out at reservoir Those that have replaced with hose clamps, have the hose clamps held?

Thanks

Curious about this as well.

You likely need new hoses as the old ones have become stiff and don't form a good seal. Get yourself a 3/8" and a 5/8" hose. (Transmission rated NOT coolant rated).

My hoses seemed good and flexible. So I chose to re-clamp them with new hoses clamps. 1 week in and no leaks so far. Thanks, again

I did the same when I flushed the power steering Hershey syrup out, basic hose clamp and no leaks yet. Hoses had been leaking for a long time per a po dealer write up and have left a mess. I think the rack has developed a squeak since the flush but I'll see if it's really the rack when I get aligned soon...

(This is at the ps reservoir)

I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.

I like how the noise level goes down, with fresh M1 syn ATF flush. A nice :banana:preventive maintenance job. I need to take a hard look at all my rubber hoses, thanks for the tip and size of hose.

is there a preferred method for doing a complete flush of the power steering fluid?

My prefrred method:

I disconnect return line (top line) from reservoir and run into catch bucket with extension tubing.
Tip: Couple extension tubing using a small piece of brass tubing (or any material) to return line. Plug nipple coming off reservoir with piece of tubing, use bolt or clamp to plug other end of tubing. Place rag under reservoir.

Easiest with two people, one crank engine while other filling reservoir, but can be done alone. Just don't leave engine running or you'll run steering pump dry. Or IIRC you can turn steering wheel from side to side at least they how we did Lexus IS300.

Notes: Return line nipple on reservoir 9.55mm OD. If reservior very dirty you may want to clean out before flushing system. You'll need 1 qt ATF &:cheers:

Search and you'll find some threads with pic.

Is there a part # for these (2) hoses or is this a oreilly advance napa trip in the making?

I have the exact same issues with my return line leaking at the reservoir nipple but my fluid level has remained perfect.

NAPA trip. 3/8" and 5/8". Make sure you get transmission fluid rated hoses and not coolant hoses.

Thanks for all the tips. Does anyone have length for each hose? Or buy 2 ft each and cut to length when you remove the old ones?
