I have an '82 FJ40 that I am putting the smog system back on due to Utah emissions requirements.

At this time the PS pump is located where the smog pump goes. Since I am putting the smog pump back in, I need a new location for the PS pump.

I know that Man-A-Fre sells a "4+Plus Saginaw Pump Bracket for 2F Engines". I am wondering if there are any other options out there that do not require me to fab up my own bracket (i.e. someone else has made a bracket that can work for me).

Thanks for the help.

From the pic it looks like your block has the boss's for the factory PS bracket. I would be tempted to run a pump from a 60... How much tire are you running ? If smaller than a 37" or so and its not a serious rock rig it should be enough pump.

squeezer,

I am on 31" tires right now with plans to go to 35" in the future.

My concern with the OEM bracket and pump are the prices. OEM bracket looks to be ~$125 (used) and the OEM pump looks to be ~$350 to $400.

Since I already have a pump that works, I would prefer to only invest in a bracket unless otherwise forced to go another route (i.e. OEM parts).

I forgot to ask....

Anyone have dimensions on the OEM PS Pump Bracket? I am wondering if the PS Pump that I currently have will fit on it? It is currently mounted to the smog pump bracket (for reference).

I'm thinking the sag pump will not bolt onto a stock pump, but you should be able to fab a bracket up, fairly simple, it doesn't need to adjust. either use the smog to adjust or run it off the alt belt and the smog will turn the H2O pump.

probably better to run it off the smog belt, that way you will have 2 belts on the H2O pump.

not sure how you adjust the smog pump,OEM goes off the bottom of the PS mount, but it shouldn't be to hard to figure some way to tension it.

here is what I did (mines an F no emissions!)

its a fabed bracket with a scout sag pump bracket for adjusting the belt.
but I second using the 60 pump. it should bolt right up.

hope this helps

How am I going to get the price for a 60 bracket and pump past the finance committee?

If you don't want to spend the bucks for a built in toyota setup, then contact Georg, Orange45 who is/will be making the Dorry bracket for the saginaw pump. Many of us run this mount as we don't want to deal with the head bolt brackets.

Blue77FJ40,

Will the Dorry bracket that Orange45 is making mount on the drivers side above the smog pump?

Brider,

Thanks for the link to the write-up. I will look through it this evening.

Georg has verified that the Dorry PS pump mount will work with a smog pump in the stock location below it.

John Smith,

VERY COOL!

I will PM Georg today regarding the bracket. Thanks for getting me this information!

American Psycho,

Does the pump and bracket from a 60 fit on the driver's side above the smog pump? Or is there modifications that are necessary?

The reason I would like it on the drivers side is that I plan to put in a Vintage Air A/C unit and I believe the right side is needed to mount some of the hardware associated with the unit.

Also found that cruiserparts.net has the bracket and pump for a 40. Rebuilt pump = $200 and bracket = $50. Will likely need hoses too so that would be another $260 (with the cooler).

Lots of options...

What about moving the alt over to the driver's side (using easily-obtained, used and cheap Toyota bracket), and installing a PS pump out of a 60-series (also easily obtained and relatively cheap) on the passenger side?

Not always the case, sometimes not available and sometimes not cheap. Used Landcruiser parts are more like the surplus business, sometimes stuff falls out of availability for awhile, then a few pieces pop up. Last time I talked to one of our "used parts suppliers" about the OE bracket to mount the alternator onto the right side, they had one only, with no promise of getting more. Today you could look around and possibly find a dozen, possibly all in one spot???

That I do not know - I believe so, but a 60's cruiserhead would be a better authority.

My 40 has no smog crap, as it's EUR spec.

I just added an OEM pump to my '79 block - yours will have the factory holes for the PS pump mounting bracket. Someone else posted that you can get a used bracket, reman pump and the pulley from cruiserparts.net for about $300. Unless you want it to be 100% stock, I'd forego the OEM cooler setup and just run a small cooler like others have - save yourself a couple hundred bucks that way. Let me know if you want to see any pics of my set-up (OEM pump to a mini-truck box)....I just did the write-up....

Any suggestions on where to get a cooler for the PS setup (source and part#)?

CruiserStuff,

I will go and take a look at your write-up and the associated pics. Thanks for taking the time to write it up.

I have yet to have experience with purchasing a cooler, but, here's one that several here on MUD have recommended. It is a plate and fin style unit from Summit.

Derale # 13501 cost $45.69
