so my power steering paperclip walked off the job this morning. in order to get where i needed to go, i just deleted the cooler for the time being. i cut off the cooler tubing where it comes over the front cross member and hose clamped about a foot of 0.375" rubber fuel line onto the two stubs and refilled the system.
works just fine.

my question is, is the cooler a critical item that needs replaced in a timely manner, or do i have some time with my bypass?

u can leave it as is for some time depending on how hot it is in your area? not having a cooler will for sure shorten the life of your power steering components. Summit racing has several coolers that will work just fine in that spot. When mine dies I plan on getting another non oem one.
